I am so disgusted at myself

I have been doing a day of sorting and tidying and getting some car boot stuff together. I am absolutely disgusted with myself about the amount of things I have found that I had forgotten I had, even a few pieces of clothing with tags still on. I feel like a complete selfish cow when there are people out there who have nothing. I am certainly not well off. My pay covers my outgoings but no savings. I am still gutted that I have become so materialistic that I don't even know what I've got. I am now giving half my stuff to the charity shop and will give half of what I earn at the car boot to charity too. I will only keep a small portion to pay off a bit of my car insurance which is due soon.

Not an AIBU I guess. I just need to rant about myself!

give yourself a break most of us do it

wellwisher · 21/07/2012 18:43

I had this - was a complete shopping/label fiend for years, spent time working and travelling in v poor countries and living out of a small bag, came home and was appalled at how much stuff I had - things like Jimmy Choo shoes that I didn't even remember buying. Blush

I learned from it and got rid of loads. Ebay also good for things that are BNWT (brand new with tags). :)

You're not a bad person at all.

This is coming from a random stranger on the internet, so it must be true!

But seriously, you're not. You clearly give a shit about things most people don't bother with. You're not a bad person.

Why don't you use some of the money (no matter how little) you raise to start a savings account? Even if you save £5 a week that will soon add up.

Fourfingerkitkat · 21/07/2012 18:50

YANBU....btw..can you send some of the stuff to me please. Size 12 clothes and size 6 shoes.

alphabite · 21/07/2012 18:51

Thanks everyone. You've made me feel better about myself. I have just had another quick look at some of the stuff and have realised the majority of it I didn't buy for me but bought for my classroom when I was a teacher. I don't feel so guilty knowing I bought it for the sake of 'my' kids (apart from the tagged clothes of course!).

Good idea IHaveaFeatureWall. I am no good at saving.

Fourfingerkitkat. I only wish I was a size 12! As for size 6 shoes, you'd struggle to get in my tiny size 3 shoes!

I am now up to 5 bin liners of rubbish.

Then 10 carrier bags and 1 box of car boot and charity shop stuff.

It's now all in my spare room and my bedroom looks amazing...all sparkly new.

Need to sort spare room and living room tomorrow.

Size 3 shoes, where is it you live Grin

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 21/07/2012 21:03

no no give me the size 3 shoes!!!

RuleBritannia · 21/07/2012 21:10

How have you chosen between what goes to a charity shop and what you try to flog at a car boot sale?

RandomMess · 21/07/2012 21:12

I asked first

What erm size clothes do you have...

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 21/07/2012 21:25

fair enough Random could we have half each? what are your teachery bits? i'm an 8-10 Wink

RandomMess · 21/07/2012 21:28

I have broad feet so will pass on what doesn't fit Wink

alphabite · 21/07/2012 21:46

Haha. There is only 1 pair of flip flops and no shoes I'm afraid. I'm not admitting what clothes size I am!

I haven't chosen yet RuleBritannia but I'm guessing I'll give most of the books and clothes to the charity shop as they sell better at charity shops than car boots.

ah well it was worth an ask!

theoldtrout01876 · 22/07/2012 01:38

Hey I know the feeling, I have more stuff than I know what to do with, Im talking MASSIVE amounts of stuff.

I sorted out Dd2 ( 7 ) dresser today and I literally have 3/4 of a 40 gallon trash bag full of folded clothes that no longer fit and her dresser is still full

I told my Ds's to sort out their room, got 2 40 gallon bags of clothes out of there and it still looks like a bomb went off

Dd1 (16 ) sorted out hers last week and I handed off nearly a full 40 gallon bag of her clothes to a girl I work with for her daughter

Im taking designer stuff and stuff with tags still on, band shirts etc no wonder Im broke :o

My basement is stuffed to the point of just having a walkway through the crap to the washing machine, there is stereo systems ( not hip enough ) computers ( too old and slow and out dated ) toys, snow boards, skis, brand new $400 snowboard boots I bought for Ds2 and he gave up boarding and never wore em. There are winter coats in a huge variety of sizes all the way from toddler to mid teen, winter boots the same plus millions of other shoes that just dont cut it any more. There is luggage, tools fish tanks and bird play stations. I have furniture and art work. Its a disgrace actually

I wont even mention the over stuffed to capacity garage :(

I need to get my shit together an donate it ALL somewhere, the thought of going " in" scares me
