To have left 8mo dd in the car?

DD has fallen asleep in her car seat. If I move it or her she is likely to wake up and refuse to go back down (I know this from bitter experience).

We have a busy afternoon planned.

Car is parked on the drive and I can see DDs face through the window at all times.

Wont she overheat in the car?

maddening · 20/07/2012 12:49

I have sat in car mnetting on phone while ds slept - is it poss to sit with dd?

ChunkysMum · 20/07/2012 12:49

Window is open a crack, I have sat in a still car for over two hours before with no issues.

Id sit in the car with her if you really don't want to move her

Sighingagain · 20/07/2012 12:50

I did it all the time - I made sure I can see her (she is bigger now) and got on with stuff - just left all windows ajar a little

Sighingagain · 20/07/2012 12:51

She is on your drive it's fine

StetsonsAreCool · 20/07/2012 12:52

We do this quite often but dd is older now. I don't remember doing it before she was one. But tbf we lived in a flat then... I mean when we visited people.

ChunkysMum · 20/07/2012 12:52

I am currently putting wet washing on drying racks and am looking at her face while I do it. Do you think I should go sit outside then?

newmum001 · 20/07/2012 12:53

We've done this. Just keep checking her she'll be fine.

MammaTJ · 20/07/2012 12:54

As long as you can see her and she isn't going to get too hot then it is fine.

Marne · 20/07/2012 12:55

As long as you can see her and its not too hot in the car then i don't see a problem, my neightbour always leaves her grandchild in the car when she's asleep, she just parks where she can keep an eye on her.

She will be fine, i think it would be a little OTT to go and sit with her (unless you live in a realy rough area and someones likely to nick your car with child in it Grin.

PollyLove · 20/07/2012 12:56

I do this, make sure cars locked, window open and go out every few mins if the cars not parked where I can see her.

TeaTeaLotsOfTea · 20/07/2012 12:56

I used to actually take the car seat out yes it was bloody heavy and fiddly but oh god to wake DS up would just be hell on earth

NameGames · 20/07/2012 12:57

There's no need to sit outside, but go and check on her occasionally and make sure your "just a crack" is enough to let the air and heat circulate. So long as you keep an eye on her and are certain she can't overheat, she's as safe on the drive as she was when you were driving her around in the car.

darkfever · 20/07/2012 12:58

Given that you are keeping an eye on her, I'd say it depends on the weather - if it's very sunny, then the window being open a crack may not be enough to stop her overheating.

Mrsjay · 20/07/2012 12:58

sit near a window and watch her car is in your drive the car isnt going to blow up or be stolen she will be fine IMO of course Smile

Sighingagain · 20/07/2012 12:58

No you don't need to sit in the car - she's fine. Make the most of it - get a few chores done and then have a nice cup o tea

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/07/2012 12:59

YANBU. Just keep checking her

attheendoftheday · 20/07/2012 13:03

I do this but I sit in the car with my dd.

screamingeels · 20/07/2012 13:10

We do this, and we don't even have a drive, so car is on the street outside our terraced house. We tend to keep front door open as well and pop in and out so that passers-by don't think DS has been abandoned and call Social Services.
Intrestingly when DD was little I would sit in the car with her whilst she slept, poor neglected second born DS.

smoggii · 20/07/2012 13:12

get a drink and a magazine and go and sit in the car so you know the temperature is fine and she is safe.

Jaffacakeeater · 20/07/2012 13:12

I always leave DCs asleep in car using the iPhone baby monitor app.

QuenelleOJersey2012 · 20/07/2012 13:14

I think it's ok. I would have done the same if we had off road parking when DS was little. As we had to park on the road I would stay in the car with him. Didn't even have MN on my phone then... Sad

doublemocha · 20/07/2012 13:15

She will be fine! If you can see her and the window is open enough that you are satisfied she is getting enough air then no problem. I am sure you will check her often enough to make you feel reassured.

Dillydollydaydream · 20/07/2012 13:16

I would probably sit with her so you can check its not too hot - my wifi works on my drive so I can happily browse the Internet or whatever.
If its not warm where you are and you can see her I'm sure she'll be fine
