Further to the nauseating FB statuses.... sorry... Grin

I have a few friends who constantly post about cleaning their houses, things like 'house smells of bleach now I've done all the downstairs' or 'Must get this house sorted' then 8 hours later 'almost finished' Confused

So, AIBU to wonder if actually these people have minging houses and post on FB to create the impression they are always cleaning? Do people really spend 8 hours cleaning their houses in one day and if they do, mustn't they be minging to start with?!

Looks around at toys strewn everywhere by kids and very large pile of washing and wonders if maybe I'm just jealous of their cleaning motivation....

We both work full time so end up spending a whole day cleaning.

StrandedBear · 19/07/2012 17:25

Well it took 2 days to clean the old house before the landlord came and did the checkout. It was a minging mess, because I just didn't want to do it. It was a shit house. This new one takes half an hour max every night. If I didn't do it for 2 weeks maybe it'd take 8 hours.

especially if they are doing windows, skirting etc

cheekybarsteward · 19/07/2012 17:27

I have a FB friend who posts everytime she changes her bedsheets with "lovely and fresh sheets, heaven".
Worrying thing is this is about every 3 months or so whether they need changing or not! Hmm

snickers251 · 19/07/2012 17:27

I have one full day of cleaning (with lots of tea breaks) once a week, it looks like shit for the other 6 days Grin

LynetteScavo · 19/07/2012 17:30

My friends all seem to post about what they have just cooked (along with photographic evidence). I don't need to know they have just created a bread and butter pudding. Confused

rainydaysarebad · 19/07/2012 17:32

Are you sure their activity on FB stops after the first status update? I have a friend on FB who always writes about her housework, but then if you look on her timeline she has about a hundred Farmville updates (yes, Farmville Hmm) after the first housework comment.

GoodHeavensNo · 19/07/2012 17:33

We both work full time so end up just not cleaning very much

I have NEVER spent 8 hours cleaning. I think my world record is about 4 hours.

I have NEVER written a cleaning related facebook post.

I am clearly a scumbag Blush

waterwatereverywhere · 19/07/2012 17:35

I think anyone who constantly updates fb with statuses like this, or "just cooked a delicious chili" frankly needs to get out more. Grin

mrscumberbatch · 19/07/2012 17:39

I have never done it, but would consider posting something about cleaning to shame myself into actually doing it.

kinkyfuckery · 19/07/2012 17:40

I honestly don't think I could spend 8 hours cleaning my house - the cluttered shit would get in the way!

Zippylovesgeorge · 19/07/2012 17:40

Anyone who uses the phrase 'nom nom' after mentioning food should be shot.

sensuallettuce · 19/07/2012 17:41

I did not have kids to then continue to clean my own house Grin

sensuallettuce · 19/07/2012 17:41

And zippylovesgeorge totally agree.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 19/07/2012 17:43

I have lots of friends from Hong Kong, I asked and it is apparently the done thing there is to take photos of all your special/interesting meals.

I had to hide most of them because I got so fecking hungry looking at all this delicious food on my timeline.

LeanderBear · 19/07/2012 17:44

It's eay to block people's feeds without blocking the actual person. Do it and be free of the gibberish.

You can block any game update too. Why anyone would want to read anyone else's FarmVille posts is beyond me.

So yes, YABU to bother reading their statuses.

What's with the posting of really uninspiring dinners on facebook. Most of it looks just plopped onto a plate.

Yama · 19/07/2012 17:49

My friends mainly post about the following:

Cats (photos)
Dogs (photos)
Food (photos)
The gym
The weather

Mighty British subject matter.

RumpleStiltzkin · 19/07/2012 17:52

Another reason not to join FB! Smile

Cheriefroufrou · 19/07/2012 17:57

the person I know who posts daily about all the cleaning/gardening she's done IMO does it to justify the alcohol she drinks EVERY NIGHT!

"oo just done X in the garden, deserve a nice cold cider now!" .. and dumb-asses always encourage her! "wow you're superwoman, enjoy your cider" Hmm
IMO she has a real problem, she seems to drink A LOT every night alone.. and wonders why she has other health problems Hmm but by posting about all her housework on facebook she gets loads of enouragement to "relax with a cold drink after all that"

Other person with regular housework FB updates has the most minging house ever! anyone who has been in it can see that there is probably years of grot! layers of it! I do not know who she is trying to convince? maybe she has loads of people on her facebook who have never been in her home?

Cheriefroufrou · 19/07/2012 17:59

(none of the people on my facebook who have lovely sparkly houses ever post about it, I guess it's second nature to them?)

littlemissbroody26 · 19/07/2012 18:02

People who post about cleaning or dinner need some more interesting hobbies (in my opinion.)

whois · 19/07/2012 18:19

Littlemissbroody26, I'm not sure why you begrudge people some enjoyment in their evening? I can't see how people working in 'real' full time jobs possibly have time for interesting hobbies during the week. Commute>home>eat>bed would be the most a lot of people get to do in the evenings!

littlemissbroody26 · 19/07/2012 18:24

I understand that people's lives are busy. But I personally find undates on people's domestic daily life very dull and I think it would be better to not update your status if the most interesting thing that happened in the day was making toad in the hole/changing the duvet cover/cleaning the bath.

kinkyfuckery · 19/07/2012 20:44

I think people that spend time posting on forums about the dullness of other people's lives are pretty dull [yawn]

Yama · 19/07/2012 20:50

I'm trying to work out if that's some kind of post-ironic comment Kinkyfuckery but have had Wine.
