that there have been early sightings of the purple people. There have been multiple sightings in and around the St James park area. They were first spotted yesterday and they have been increasing in numbers already today. They are operating both in packs and on there own. One lone one nearly met with an early and grizzly end though when she took out my 2 yr old with her wheelie bag!

I first spotted one a week ago, and just thought someone had gone a bit overboard in the Olympic clothing store!
Didn't realise they were the 'helpers!'

I expect they'll make it as far as Newcastle soon, cos some of the football is being held there isn't it?
No2 son's college course tried to send the entire class on the volunteers training course, whether they wanted to go or not, in the guise of a "work experience trip" but he was spared because he wasn't 18 by the cut off date. He was the only one I could save though, all the others had had birthdays :(

I am feeling quite left out now as have not seem any purple people, although I do actually know one of them.....he is really excited.

No purple people sightings down here yet, will keep on high alert though. Thanks for the warning...

My DH and four of my neighbours are among the purple people - please be nice to them if you see them, they're giving up their own time, and are not personally responsible for the Games lanes, either of the bizarre mascots or Seb Coe the fact that everyone you know keeps asking if you want to come to see the Beach Volleyball with them.

Good luck to all the volunteers, the purple people thing is about the word police and the olympic word bans not the helpers. It's a great oppourtunity for them all but for people who can't go we aren't allowed to have any olympic themed things, there's a thread somewhere, hence the "one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater"
