To be soooo angry with Virgin

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:08

I recently moved house. Because we wanted to have a decent Internet connection and being able to watch TV when it rains we chose Virgin... I make a lot of international calls. Within a few days of having our phone, they disabled international dialling because they felt I used too much of it and there may be a problem!!!...??? I had made 3 calls to France!!!! I simply do not understand why they did that (we have an excellent credit history, so this excuse doesn't wash).... Shouldn't they have spoken to me first!? My 11yo DS is currently in France and unless I ring from my mobile I have no way of speaking to him. We called Virgin on Friday. They mumbled so crappy apologies and said it would be restored in 48hrs. 72hrs later, the problem is still not sorted. Their call centre is soooo bad I lose the will to live when I ring it... They have now told me that nothing yet had been done about reinstating international dialing... My son is on his first hol without me and I can't speak to hm. I am ssssoooo angry. Unless IABU... but I am ssssooo angry that surely I am not!

When you call speak to retentions, the "thinking of leaving us "option. Not only will you talk to a uk based person, they generally have more "power" to get things sorted.

I broke my phone flinging it at a wall after dealing with Virgin .... Bastards

Isityouorme · 16/07/2012 19:11

And no, you are not being unreasonable!

delilahbelle · 16/07/2012 19:13

I am reduced to internet on my phone only after 5 days without broadband. Area fault, god knows when it will be fixed. After two angry phonecalls I did get a 10quid account credit. yay.

OlymPicture · 16/07/2012 19:14

YANBU - agree retentions or tweet so their PR people pick it up

PoppyWearer · 16/07/2012 19:15

YANBU. They suspended our account once (cut off broadband and TV - try explaining that to an upset 2yo) because our DD had failed, (not our fault, plenty of money in the account) and we had exceeded their arbitrary £120 credit limit as DH had made a couple of work calls to the US.

They reinstated it after a quick ranty call from me asking to close my account IMMEDIATELY. They are capable of being utter twunts. This was a couple of years ago.

We're back with Sky these days.

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:17

How do they manage to stay in business? The mind boggles!!!! All I hear from people is ow rubbish their customer service is. Laughing at Isityouorme flinging her phone: I sympathise!

Shock That's awful.

NarkedRaspberry · 16/07/2012 19:20

So you're running up a big mobile bill too?

ratspeaker · 16/07/2012 19:21

You tried posting on their forum?
community.virginmedia.com/

That can often get results

vnmum · 16/07/2012 19:23

I have had a few annoying technical problems with virgin but nothing that would make me want to go back to robbing bastards sky. They may have disabled your international calling because the charges had mounted up alot. They do charge £1 per minute for international calls iirc, so a few 30 min calls could soon give you a large bill

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:25

Yes, I use my mobile and with a bit of luck the folks at Vodafone will not be as moronic as those from Virgin. The mobile bill will be interesting...

I've posted about Virgin before.

I can't tell you what we should do, we tried everything to get them to sort our problem (caused by them) out.
In the end we just left.
Their customer service is shamefully bad.
We moved to Sky at the start of the year and so far they are brilliant.

squeakytoy · 16/07/2012 19:25

You should have gone with Sky. Virgin are crap, and Sky offer the low cost international calls too.

PoppyWearer · 16/07/2012 19:26

I flung the remote control. The end broke off. Blush

ImperialBlether · 16/07/2012 19:30

Whoever said you should threaten to leave it absolutely right. You've never seen anyone move as fast as virgin threatened with withdrawal.

gamerwidow · 16/07/2012 19:31

YANBU virgin customer service sucks. I wish there was an alternative to Sky or Virgin to get the same package because they're both pretty poor. As it is I've been with SKY and I'm now with Virgin but will return to SKY as soon as I can.

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:31

So far a broken telephone, a broken remote... Anything else? It's staggering...

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:32

We've just joined, don't think I can leave... Can I? Aren't I bound for a year with those idiots?

Glittertwins · 16/07/2012 19:36

How can they argue if they arent providing the service you agreed with them?

We've had Virgin for years now and haven't had too many problems although they did annoy me by saying there was no fault at all because nobody else had reported it, got revenge 3 hours later when they admitted it and the very nice repair man even came over the road to tell me it was all fixed.

BrittaPerry · 16/07/2012 19:36

Virgin are the best, by far, for Internet. But omg the customer service.

I rang to complain once about something fairly minor (the Internet wasn't set up when it should ave been in our new house) and got the most condescending bastard twat of a complaint handler ever. He told me that a nice young lady like me should be out on dates or reading fashion magazines, not on the Internet. Then told me that, if I contacted virgin again, a report would come up on his screen and he would be in touch. Creepy as hell. I was actually married with two kids but had the title Ms on my account.

BrittaPerry · 16/07/2012 19:38

Also, I would rather virgin than give murdoch any more money.

JojoLapin · 16/07/2012 19:48

That's it. Their Internet is good but frankly, right now, a dial up internet connection sounds better than staying with those twats.

Customer service is patchy. One time I rang the customer service guy refused to speak to me & would only deal with the 'man of the house as he will deal with financial matters'. I'm afraid I ripped him off a strip on that one. Other times they've been really helpful.

AfternoonDelight · 16/07/2012 20:10

YANBU.

I've just left Virgin after moving house and getting awful customer service from them. Would have loved to have seen the look on the face of the person I was talking to at the time - after charging me more money per month for less services, I phoned them and said cancel the whole thing. They started going on about a service charge, and I yelled said, "I don't CARE!".

I'm with BT now, and they've been no bother. Gone to Sky for TV who were efficient as well.
