To write a letter..

We have just secured an appointment in an hour to view what could possibly be my dream house! It's a rented property and if we want it we're going to have to impress as its extremely popular.

A friend has suggested we write an "about us" short letter to the landlords.

Would this impress you or put you off prospective tenants?

I don't think it would swing it one way or the other for me. Landlords will be well hardended by the very experience of being landlords.

What the landlord wants is a reference from previous landlord/s that you paid promptly and left the property in good order. Apart from that he's not bothered.

Fair play. Thanks for your opinions. Just found out the landlords will be there anyway and I haven't left myself enough time to write it!

I sort of meant because they will have lots of prospective tenants to choose from, what features would make one family appeal over another?

I see what you mean. If the LL has 2/3/4 prospective tenants all with good references and credit history then you want something that sets you apart.
