YABU

Give the teachers credit for what they have done for your child before picking on the negatives

Rant over

What's salt and pepper punctuation?

Johnnydeppsnewmrs · 09/07/2012 23:42

Doesn't that mean scattered here and there?
YANBU to think they should be better written. But maybe bear in mind they have 30ish to write, possibly on their own time.
Unless the teaching has been bad, give them a little slack.

cormsilkye · 09/07/2012 23:43

what were the spelling mistakes? was it hand written?

Passmethecrisps · 09/07/2012 23:44

Irritating but not the be all and end all. Our Englisb department have endless debate about 'correct' grammar and some have such strong styles that I am not surprised some parents are perplexed. Many mistakes will be typos and not a reflection of their ability.

If it genuinely concerns you write to the school - I got a letter recently pointing out an inconsistency in one of mine. I was pleased to be told - she was very charming about it.

YANBU
Teachers need to be able to spell and use grammar appropriately otherwise they are likely to teach their pupils incorrectly

I took my dd to see a SALT recently - appalled to realise that she was getting dd to say "today I am watching" "yesterday I watched" (fair enough) but she said "somefink" and "gonna" more than once. I was Shock

redwhiteandblueeyedsusan · 09/07/2012 23:49

they probably wrote them at midnight aftere a days teeaching. you should be more shocked that the head has released them in this state.

Passmethecrisps · 09/07/2012 23:53

Fair point red. Ours go through a three tier monitoring system before they go out. Incredibly time consuming though causing some parents to get frustrated at the time delay between the teacher writing them and distribution.

Sorry but that is fantastic!

I read the sequel to Freakanomics and their theory was that standards are falling because of women's prospects improving. If you were the best and brightest of the bunch in the 1950s and female and you wanted to work you could be a nurse or a teacher. All the best minds of a generation were teachers. Now, you can be anything you want so not as many intelligent and driven women are going into teaching.
