to think glasses make your eye sight worst

I have just been prescribed reading glasses and it does make it hell of a lot easier to use a mobile phone. I have been using glasses for 2 days.

I now find a struggle with fine print when I am not wearing glasses more than I did two days ago.

Is this normal. Or does having glasses make your eyes lazy.

I do think your eyes get used to them, I changed to contacts and now my glasses are blurry which I suspect is because my eyes get used to the lens being closer to my eye if you know what I mean?

Not sure if it's true or what have you but my prescription has changed.

Totally normal - it will change the way you focus. I am long sighted (i think, i dont struggle with reading just distance) and if i take my glasses off im buggered for the rest of the day, but if i haven't been wearing them for a while (over night say ) then i don't stuggle half as much.

My DP recently been prescribed reading glasses but only told to wear them when his eyes are tired as othersie it will mean he will need them more.

Juney, my optician told me that the prescription for contact lenses should be different to the one for glasses.

My dad also believes wearing glasses makes your eye sight worse; now some people on here are also claiming the same thing, maybe I'll listen to him in future!

I think they make it feel worse because as doggiemumma says it changes the way you focus. But actually it's just the same.

When you need glasses but don't use them you are straining trying to focus in a kind of compromise way which can make sight worse.

However when you have them you learn the right way to focus, and when you take them off you've forgotten the compromise way of focusing and try to focus properly, which you can't without glasses, this makes your eyesight feel worse than it is.

What you may find is that you are just noticing it more.

You were used to seeing things the way you did so it was normal. Now you have the glasses you really notice how bad it is without them.

I am as blind as a bat and recently had a new prescription. I walked in there to collect my new glasses wearing my old ones and thought I was seeing clearly. I put the new ones on and WOW! Then I put the old ones back on and couldn't believe how fuzzy everything was.

Totally normal. Bit shocking when you realise how bad your eyesight was before, isn't it? Grin
