Dp thinks i am.

Shorthand version is i was a single parent before meeting dp and have always worked full time. Consequently i have also never been able to do a school run due to work commitments.

My eldest is coming to the end of year 2 and i want to pick them up from school and take them to the park before they become too old to enjoy it.

Aibu?

Do it!

YANBU at all. Enjoy them when they're young!

FredWorms · 04/07/2012 22:14

Nooo, i'd definitely do it.

YANBU

Yabu. My DD is coming to the end of year three and her clssmates all still love the park!

Some of them are 9.

BUT yanbu to want a day off to enjoy a school pick up...however don't blame it on your "ageing" child. Grin

I'm a big believer in well-planned sickies, do it and make the most of the rest of the day too!

FredWorms · 04/07/2012 22:15

You won't remember that day at work, but you will remember the school run.
Surprised you even needed to ask, really.

maras2 · 04/07/2012 22:15

As long as it's annual leave or flexi then go ahead. However if you're thinking of throwing a sickie then YABVU.

CanISawItOff · 04/07/2012 22:18

Dp is of the opinion i need to 'man up' as its what everyone else does and its perfectly normal to never do a school run and that im overthinking it all. Tbh I've got to the point where i am feeling totally burnt out and feel like im missing out on their childhood.

I don't do throwing sickies, i have enough time off with genuine illness!

Quite reasonable but don't get too starry eyed about it. Frankly, mine are hideous from 3 to 5

See mine are hideous by the time i see them at 615 so they can't be too much worse than that! :o

Not if it's a sickie, but as a great use of time off? Yes absolutely!

I've dropped my dc off at school, for probably the only time I'll ever get to do so for all three, today (teacher, on Work Experience Visits today).

It was lovely Smile.

Oh FGS take that day off and enjoy it. You're right - this time goes like a rocket and it doesn't come back.

I remember in my FT working days managing to collect the kids from school one day - we went to the park and sailed a boat in the boating lake. A drowning bee climbed aboard and we rescued it - we all still remember that afternoon, because it was so special and so different. You need thoses sort of days.

Sorry CanI. No offence meant re.sickies.
