Broken Glasses

DS nearly 4 in September & at pre-school. After a few years trying to test his eyes they found out he was long sighted so prescribed him glasses. Took him to opticians and he choose some glasses which were not free as they were £49 so I had to pay the difference, if they are £29 they are free. In hindsight I should of got him a cheaper pair as I couldn't really afford it but he was messing around throwing tantrums etc.
At pre school Monday another child (younger) ripped them off his face and bent them. Have taken them to the opticians and they cant be repaired. Parent has offered to pay for a new pair £20 would I BU to take this. I have got him another prescription and ordered him a NHS pair as a spare & to wear at pre-school but paid another £20 for a new frame the same as original pair so at least he can see in the meantime.

Toughie... If I knew they were a bit hard up, I definitely wouldn't take the money but then I'm a bit soft like that but if you need the money, take it.

I don't understand why you think YWBBU to take the money offered. If you need it take it, if you don't and don't care don't...

I'd take it. This won't be the last time his glasses get damaged by another child (trust me, I'm an optician!) and it will get costly if you have to replace them over and over again :)

I don't know, I would probably offer but then as you can get free glasses for children then part of me says its daft to send them in anything other than the free ones especially as I know how many times my nephew has managed to break his!

Young children do grab glasses off faces though, DS managed to break the lens in mine a few weeks back.

You wouldn't be unreasonable to accept the money as she has offered though,

Get the free or bendable glasses until he is at least 9 - trust me!!!

I have learnt my lesson with regards to just having the free ones. Its all new to me, I wish he wasn't throwing such a strop then I probably would of been more rational???
