I hate my daughters school

We change school in November because we moved house.

After 5 week my Ds1 hadn't been given a book to read I had tried to speak to the teacher but no deal. So I asked to speak to the Head she told me that she was to busy to deal with my trivial problems. Eventually got that sorted.

After this my Ds1 come home and told me she was being taught by a TA (not upper level) for the last 2 weeks as her teacher deputy head had been with the head. I phoned the school to ask if the TA was a advanced TA and it stopped.

My Ds started drama last term on a Tuesday this term it's called swaray and on a Wednesday so as Ds does something else on a Wednesday she didn't want to go. Sounds ok.

Well until day Ds comes out of school saying she has to do swaray as the whole year is doing it. She was told to fine a poem and after 3 no's was given a foundation stage poem (she is year 6). And told she was being unreason as they were making memories for for.

I went into the school and told them that if they wanted her to be in the swaray, I would take her home and we would find a poem that was suitable. Reasonable !

The Head just looked me up and down and said she would have to investigate the matter as i must have my wires crossed.

Was I really expecting to much for the snooty bitch to be civil. Sorry for the rant but I just wanted to batter her (never normally violent). At this point I told her that Ds would come to school with a poem and left. Sorry it so long

Wouldn't worry about it she has 2 weeks then she will be off to high school

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 17:05

It does sound like a load of old bollocks, but agree with Mchappy, she will be off to high school in a couple of weeks.

What in the name of moses is swaray anyway?

What is a foundation poem?

I thought the value of a poem at a recital would lie in how well it was performed, not how difficult it was to read. Or have I missed something?

Nonio · 04/07/2012 17:11

Thanks i hear you. Unfortunately Ds2 has 2 more years there.

Oh I see.

Bloody shame about 2 more years there, but I am sure it must just be end of term frazzled nerves. Annoying though I agree.

Fs poem 3 to 4 lines basic subject and language example. The cat sat on the chair, the cat sat on the table, the cat will sit anywhere.

Ah ok, so not actually poetry at all. If your dd has a good sense of humour and a real talent for acting she could make it a memorable experience- but I suppose it might rile the headteacher, so perhaps better not. (I would have been tempted at her age...)

dillnameddog · 04/07/2012 17:30

I don't really get why you are so angry, tbh.

She didn't get a reading book in Y6? Just get a reading book from the library. DD (Y3) never brings home a school reading book - she reads it in class, or can take in her own.

Being taught by TA for two solid weeks - are you sure that is what happened? Kids do exaggerate some time but if so, that's bad. You have rung and it has stopped though.

I don't get the swaray thing, but the HT has said you have your wires crossed and maybe you have. You are angry that she doesn't seem civil - if you are thinking of her as a bitch and wishing to hit her, then she has probably picked up on your antagonism. Hard to be friendly to someone who is bristling with anger.

I would just calm down, and see how the rest of term pans out. Next year may be better.

Hi dillnameddog. Ds1 was told she could not get a book until she had been assessed. 100% on the TA. I was not angry until I left the school. I had talked my Ds into doing a poem to meet the school half way.

Hi Cory she was tempted until we found a poem that made her laugh.
