To think tonight is a disaster?

Haven't slept in days as dd2 is 4 weeks and never wants to sleep alone, tonight DH was out, DD1 (2.8) asleep and DD2 for once laid down quietly in Moses basket, hurray I think some sleep.

Roll the clock on, DD2 gets up about 30m after being put down and has been on poo, feed, puke cycle ever since. DH is back and although he's doing some nappies his whinging about the heat and playing on his iPhone totally diff from MNing obv! is irritating and DD1 has developed a hacking cough, high temp and has transferred herself to our bed where she is keeping the baby awake singing wind the bobbin up.

AIBU to say sod the lot of you and go sleep in the car (may need to take bf baby?).

Surely just one of those nights you got to be in mega mummy mode?
YABU your kids need you.

Oh dear... Rough night! Hang in there, it's not an unmitigated disaster just yet. Your DH is back. Task him with settling DD1 back in her bed with a wipe-over with a cool flannel/Calpol/quiet cuddle and story-time* while you settle the baby again. Remind yourself that 4 weeks is very tiny, it's not the end of the world if you can get DD2 to sleep on you and then try a sneaky transfer to crib etc. But keep hold of the mantra that "this too shall pass". Good luck, will be thinking of you (and going it's a good sized car if it comes to that!) Wink

If it helps I'm an insomniac I've had about 8 hours sleep over the past 5 days.

I was just reaching my exhaustion point and about to crash out and DD2 is up vomiting, making a big kerfuffle. She's disturbed the dogs and cats so they're all stomping about because its too hot. Knowing her she will be up from now on until morning and so am I probably as DH has a meeting and yes can you tell I AM NOT PLEASED!

Oh helpful sesame Hmm

OP you need to divvy up the tasks. You are with the BF baby, so thats your job. "D"H's job is your eldest.

No discussion, this is how it is, and let him get on with it.

Softlysoftly · 29/06/2012 02:46

Good suggestions, DD1 is now snoring poor thing, DD2 is feeding and DH has been booted to spare room to be on call when needed so all is calm for now! Though my eye is now swelling shut because I forgot and used the wrong suncream!

Ruby hope dd2 feels better and pets are behaving!

Welcome to the harsh realities of family life!

SoleSource · 29/06/2012 09:11

It'll get better again. How are your Daughters today? A bit better, I hope? :)

PooPooInMyToes · 29/06/2012 09:12

Poor you. Those nights are so hard. We had five of them last week due to my two children having two different illnesses. Its exhausting.

Yama · 29/06/2012 09:15

Hope you managed some sleep Softlysoftly. It will get better and you will survive.

It is awful though. You don't fully realise the impact of lack of sleep until you start getting some sleep again.

Hope you have a better day today, here have a Brew
