That is terrible! What happened?

CockyPants · 21/06/2012 22:01

Cash isa transfer customer service team didn't understand the concept of customer or more importantly service.
Asked me to do their work for them and ask 3rd party bank where my cash was.
Kind of makes their jobs obsolete, really.....

Yep, they put dp into £360 worth of debt because they didnt cancel his direct debits like he asked them to. Twice.

They forwarded this debt onto shady credit companies who now bombard him with letters. Santanders response?

"Sorry, its out of our hands."

Bastards.

TheOnlyWayIsEnfield · 21/06/2012 22:44

Can't remember the ins and outs of it, but had a spectacular fail with them when I tried to open an ISA. The highlight was them sending me someone else's birth certificate through the post by accident. You know when you're having shitty service and you ask to see the manager, only to realise that you are already speaking to them? Awful place.

TheCraicDealer · 21/06/2012 22:55

To be fair i don't think they can really just go to 3rd party bank and ask for you- data protection and whatnot... They are shite though. I've got a fixed term deposit with them and I'll be ripping the cheque out of their hands and running back to my own bank as fast as my legs can carry me.

Whiteshoes · 21/06/2012 23:03

They are so bad. They started sending my statements, new card, pin number, internet banking details to another address. They told me repeatedly that they hadn't sent my new card to the other random address. They had. I had, surprise, surprise, fraudulent activity on my account. They are loathsome. I am currently moving account.

CockyPants · 22/06/2012 19:02

Dare I admit this ?.....I do .....

CockyPants · 22/06/2012 20:16

It's ok dragon bear, I won't flame you! Any ideas how to get them to increase compensation offer?? In the midst of missing money mare we found out dp needs to go back to hospital for more cardiac diagnostics, and I could have done without bank telling me to find the cash myself....

Im sorry you have had this hassle in what must be a horrible time for your family. Speaking purely in financial terms - not taking in to account worry/inconvenience etc- and depending on which ISA you chose to invest in - lets assume it was the highest rate - the 4% two year fixed rate - over the six week period the money went missing you have lost £13.86 in interest. Therefore the £250 they have offered represents just over two years interest .

A "calculator" system is used and takes in to account the number of times you have had to make unnecessary phone calls/ visits to the branch etc - and this is how the £250 will have been worked out

You can decline the offer and ask for the matter to be reviewed by a more senior manager -They can amend this offer slightly -Do you have in mind how much do you feel you would be happy to accept? If the figure is near the first offer then I would imagine they would agree to it but if for example you might want £1000 then they would probably refer you to the Ombudman in which case you may only get the original amount offered but in approx 8 weeks time (from memory - and a glass of wine ) 52% of Santander complaints referred to the Ombudsman are upheld.

I hope this helps - I dont work in the complaints department but in a branch so this is just my personal experience

Hope all goes well with DP diagnostics x

balotelli · 22/06/2012 21:31

if its any consolation. I have three accoutns with Santander and I have never had any problems with them, I quite like them.

CockyPants · 25/06/2012 00:30
