then i wont eat the crusts

but i could eat a whole loaf just with butter....

This happens about once every few months, because we do a weekly shop not a daily shop so i dont ususally eat bread because its not 'fresh' enough.

Not unreasonable - just odd. Hmm

whenyouseeitwaveorcheer · 16/06/2012 17:32

I am exactly the same! DH thinks I'm weird.

geegee888 · 16/06/2012 19:33

I love stale bread, and the crusts! (I've even been known to pick off the mould - sorry!)

WorraLiberty · 16/06/2012 19:35

I only eat fresh bread too but I love the crusts.

Trills · 16/06/2012 19:35

YAB unusually fussy, but as long as it doesn't lead you to be rude or to be a bad guest then it's not unreasonable.

squeakytoy · 16/06/2012 19:36

very weird.. you need a better bread bin, then it would stay fresh longer Grin

UniS · 16/06/2012 19:37

you need to bake your own... then you could have fresh bread daily.

Do your kids notice that you are a picky eater? and do they copy you?

sooperdooper · 16/06/2012 21:38

What if you eat bread that you haven't bought, at a friend's house or a restaurant - can you actually tell if it's fresh that day or not? I guess not and you're just being intentionally fussy/picky

ivanapoo · 16/06/2012 22:32

YABU if you end up throwing the rest of the bread away but if you're eating it all as a family I don't see the harm

EdgarAllenPimms · 16/06/2012 22:38

Yabu - how do you know how long the bread has been in the shop?

or do you check the shelf life too?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/06/2012 22:41

I'm the same. I love it on day one, will eat it toasted on day two, won't touch it on day three. Hence my breadmaker is on constantly and I can't remember the last time I bought bread.

TheDetective · 16/06/2012 22:49

I'm the same. I don't eat bread unless it is very fresh! When I buy a loaf it has to have 4 days to use by. I may eat it on the second day though. I hate hate hate bread when it starts to go even slightly firm around the crusts.

And I don't eat crusts.

marriedinwhite · 16/06/2012 22:51

Have you heard of toast? Bread and butter pudding? Bread pudding? Breadcrumbs for a steamed pudding? Bread sauce?

slowestwildebeast · 16/06/2012 23:20

Yanbu. I can't drink milk past a day, makes me queasy thinking about it.
I do eat old bread.

skateboarder · 16/06/2012 23:26

Dh is funny about bread. Wont eat bread that has been frozen, not even for toast.

TheDetective · 16/06/2012 23:26

I can't eat leftovers. It makes me feel ill just thinking about it!

Noqontrol · 16/06/2012 23:27

Make your own then you won't have a problem.

Bunbaker · 16/06/2012 23:28

Don't you own a freezer? I dislike stale bread, but will eat bread a few days old. Fresh, unsliced bread that doesn't have any preservatives in it goes stale more quickly, so I slice it all and put it in the freezer. I then take out the number of slices I need as and when I require them.

TheDetective · 16/06/2012 23:35

It never tastes the same when it has been frozen. My mum was queen of freezing the bread. Maybe that is why I have to have it so fresh now?!

cheaperthantherapy · 16/06/2012 23:36

YANBU - I'll only eat freshly baked bread too. I think it comes from working in a bakery on weekend from 14-18 yo. I got used to the good stuff ;) dh thinks I'm insane, dd loves that we always have stale bread left to feed the ducks :)

makingitin2012 · 16/06/2012 23:53

A) Precious
B) The fact you've asked about it - Precious

MarySA · 16/06/2012 23:56

I hate eating crusts. We never ate them in our house when I was a child. Crusts were for birds. DH always eats crusts. Don't like stale bread but it is v unreasonable not to eat bread that's more than a day old.

TiggyD · 16/06/2012 23:56

Fresh bread is wonderful. After you're had some you really don't want to go back to day old not as nice bread.

"I can't eat leftovers. It makes me feel ill just thinking about it!"

Words fail me!

MegBusset · 17/06/2012 00:15

We keep sliced bread in the freezer for toast, and make a loaf every couple of days. I actually quite like a chewy crust. But I am phobic about milk that has been open more than a day - if it smells like milk, I don't want it!
