This is going to be quite a long one sorry.
I have been covering for someone who has been off work sick for 3 months whilst also doing my own job, it has been ok but there is another woman who works there who likes to hog the morning shifts despite the fact I have 2 dcs and she doesnt, its been a bit of an annoyance but as I dont like confrontation I have left it alone and it has been this way for going on 8 yrs now. I do love my job but the hours dont really suit esp as my youngest ds is starting school this sept and my mum has said she wants to start taking more time for herself rather than having to pick my dcs up from school as much. fair enough, my kids my problem, so I have asked my boss if I can possibly change my hours from sept, he has said i will have to put it in writing but doesnt see a problem with it apart from covering the afternoon shift when there are absences, I have told him that where possible I would be happy to do this but that hopefully this could be shared between me and the other lady who works with me (the one who hogs mornings)
Anyway like I said I was covering afternoons for 3 months in a job that is not mine and has had quite a few new changes during the time I was doing it to get used to, there were some minor teething problems at first but it was all going well until morning hog colleague booked 2 weeks off on holiday (was booked in advance so couldn't be cancelled) As i would be covering 3 jobs and this would be a struggle on my own she offered to get her friend in as temp cover which our manager agreed to.
This was meant to be a help but to be honest as I was training her and helping her out most of the time and finishing off work that she wasn't able to do it turned out that i probably would have been better off doing it all myself as it held me up doing other work that needed doing, but I managed to get all the work that needed doing done despite this and put the hours in sometimes doing 10hr shifts without a proper break, actually quite enjoyed the challenge and was quite pleased with myself meeting all targets, there were a couple of areas i wasn't as familiar with as they are not part of my everyday job but knew they weren't important so didnt worry too much about them.
I had a holiday booked and two days before my holiday the colleague who has been off sick came back and the temp was given a weeks notice probably to cover whilst I was on holiday although it really wasnt needed as my other colleague was back from her holiday by then. Anyway I am four days into my holiday and get a text this morning from colleague who has just come back from holiday to ask me will I come in in the morning all next week as there are some things she needs to go over with me! Now I'm pretty sure no mistakes were made, all targets were met and that I did a pretty good job whilst she was away so I rang her and was told that there were a few things I had done wrong that she needed to 'help me with' and that our mananger has said temp can stay on while I am shown these things!! I am fuming, i have been in my job 8 years and suddenly because her friend needs a job I suddenly cant do mine! What gets me is that she went behind my back straight to my manager while I am on holiday and he would have had to contact the Head office to approve the temp staying on, it is making out that I am crap at my job and that this is costing the company money. I am also fuming because I am the only person in that place who covers other people when they are off and I know how to do all the other peoples jobs something that cant be said for the other two people in my office. I just feel so undervalued and am worried that my colleague is trying to undermine me all the time as this isn't the first time she has done something like this although lately I thought we were getting on well.
