To not get people cleaning their teeth like this?

OK, so firstly I'll hold my hands up and admit I watch Big Brother, well I've had a bit of a gripe now for years about this, so here goes.

When I see people cleaning their teeth on reality programmes, particularly BB, I notice that the toothbrush generally remains un-frothy, totally in their mouth at all times and they never get any goo on their chin/face.

AIBU or is this the show offs TV way to clean teeth? And also means they aren't doing it properly?!

Whoa - held that in for 11 long years!

Because people don't dribble toothpaste down their chins they are doing it wrong? I don't get it......

Olbasoil · 14/06/2012 16:25

Totally agree with you . It' almost as if they have be given reality TV teeth brushing lessons!

PandaWatch · 14/06/2012 16:28

My DH can brush his teeth without getting froth everywhere and has perfect teeth. I, on the other end, look like I have late-stage rabies every time I brush Blush

I always thought it was just me - I'm quite reassured now that I know I'm not the only one!

Lizcat · 14/06/2012 16:31

They could be using toothpaste without sodium laurel sulphate which will not froth. Aside from that I using a electric toothbrush and like to check in the mirror that I am doing each tooth surface - hence need for non-frothing toothpaste.

Spice17 · 14/06/2012 16:31

Olbasoil and Basil - goo everywhere EVERY time I do mine, down the arm sometimes even hangs head in shame

Cunning, you must be a neat TV brusher. Much more ladylike!

which is why one never gets dressed until after one has brushed one's teeth Grin

sereneswan · 14/06/2012 16:52

I thought I was the only person in the world who wondered this! I end up looking like I've gargled with bubble bath and frequently get it on clothes, arm and all over face.

I also don't get people who manage to move the toothbrush so fast it becomes a blur, or move head as well as hand, or people who manage to keep their lips clamped shut throughout.

I'm obviously just incompetent.

Another non dribbler here. DH gets it EVERYWHERE and I've no idea how.

Hopandaskip · 14/06/2012 17:01

I brush my teeth in the shower so no goo dripping anywhere.

TheMonster · 14/06/2012 17:02

They always have their mouths shut. I may a right mess when I do it.

Psammead · 14/06/2012 17:05

I never froth. DH does. No idea what we do differently.

PandaWatch · 14/06/2012 17:06

Nope - not a volume of toothpaste issue. I'm just frothy!

ObiWan · 14/06/2012 17:40

My tooth brushing is like a comedy act.

The toothpaste makes me gag, so you have frothing, gagging, spluttering and random clamping down on the brush.

Mouthwash also makes me gag, so there's the jumpy head shaking as I try not to spew the whole lot over the wall and sink.

Fun.

HMQueenElizabeth · 14/06/2012 17:41

I get toothpaste everywhere Blush, dries DH mad!

JenFraggle · 14/06/2012 17:44

I brush with my mouth closed. Don't get it all over me. Got no fillings so can't be doing it too badly

Mindyourownbusiness · 14/06/2012 17:54

I have never understood people in films rolling over first thing in morning snogging the love interest or after they've walked across three continents and slept rough or been trapped in underground tunnels for three months and are all bedraggled and minging. Obviously must have self cleaning teeth these film stars.Hmm

KatoPotato · 14/06/2012 17:58

What a revelation! My DH tells me I'm a wierdo and allsorts at the state I get in brushing my teeth! Foamy absolute mess! He on the other hand is immaculate throughout?

forevergreek · 14/06/2012 19:06

It's what's in the toothpaste. We always use arm and hammer toothpaste which doesn't

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 14/06/2012 19:30

I thought the exact opposite after watching Big Brother (years ago). How on earth do these people manage to make such a mess when brushing their teeth.

I'm a non-frother and my teeth are in pretty good nick!

EasilyBored · 14/06/2012 19:45

People brush their teeth in the shower?! For some reason the idea of that makes me gag. I have no idea why, it's obviously just as clean. Weird.

MrsCog · 14/06/2012 19:45

Another one here who gets a lot of froth everywhere, DH always laughs at me :( I do have fairly good teeth though....

Spice17 · 14/06/2012 19:50

My DH wanders around cleaning his teeth too, no goo, no open mouth, I just don't get that - HOW DO THESE PEOPLE DO IT!

Mintyy · 14/06/2012 19:58

I've got a really big mouth quite a large mouth and find it effortless to toothbrush daintily. I need the tiniest dab at the corners to tidy up.

CasperGutman · 15/06/2012 07:01

I think different people's saliva has differences in chemical composition that could be responsible.

It's not just a question of what toothpaste you use - my wife and I use the same, and she gets foam everywhere but I don't. Similarly, I often seem to get little scale deposits on my teeth which the dentist has to remove. I asked the dentist why this was - whether I should be brushing more effectively etc - and she said that was to do with variation in saliva between people. Maybe it's like the difference between hard and soft water: one gives limescale and the other lather better.
