to expect a better service from BT

I am livid with them at the moment. For over five months we have been plagued with nuisance calls which they refused to do anything about. Then last Saturday we had another call and my dh became stressed, smashed our living room phone and then had bad chest pains so we had to call an ambulance. (he has ischemic heart disease) luckily it turned out to be angina but still something he and i could have done without.

Just before he developed chest pains he was on the phone to BT and they agreed to change the number with no charge.
Today the bastards send us a bill saying we havent paid the last one fully. We paid what was agreed back then because my dhs falls monitor malfunctioned and it kept calling our mobiles but none of these calls connected or got picked up and yet they still tried to charge us for them.

BT are a pile of shit. YANBU.

carernotasaint · 08/06/2012 12:26

the falls monitor was connected to the landline phone and it calls my mobile automatically as an emergency if he has a fall. But DH was at the day centre that day and i was home alone but i couldnt disconnect the falls monitor so it kept calling my mobile 44 times but they NEVER connected.

BT keep saying that they cant stop these calls from abroad and they have changed our landline no. now but we still shouldnt have had to go through all this.

What fucks me off is that it says on the bill that we havent paid our last bill fully but we paid what was agreed by them. They tried to charge us 45.00 for 44 calls to a mobile that never even connected or got answered.
And then they refuse to even attempt to do anything to stop these nuisance calls from abroad. I bet if i was a fucking politician or a celebrity theyd find a way.

If you (the phone) rang a mobile, and it went to answerphone, you will get charged I think. So if there is a divert service on the phone, there will be charges. It does sound like they are being very unhelpful though.

Can you not link the fall thing directly to your mobile?

OldGreyWiffleTest · 08/06/2012 12:34

I really think YABU - HOW do you expect BT to stop calls from abroad or even know the difference between genuine and non-genuine calls?

carernotasaint · 08/06/2012 12:45

The falls monitor is a big box with a red light on the front. It has to be linked to a landline to work.

Wiffle i expect a decent service for the money that we pay for it. They would soon find a way if they were the ones being hassled.

It should be straightforward for BT to block all calls from abroad if you wish. It's all electronic, it's just down to flicking a switch.

Has the telephone preference service (TPSonline) not solved the problem?

carernotasaint · 08/06/2012 13:02

Thanks flatpack. We are on the telephone preference service but they still insisted that they couldnt stop the calls from abroad. They finally said theyd change the number last Sat. The number was changed yesterday (prob held up due to the Jubilee which was fair enough) Its the five months of arguing its taken to even get this far which has really taken the piss.

I hate BT. They did something similar to me. Sent me a bill claiming I hadn't paid but I had bank statements to prove it.

As it was being sorted out they referred it to a debt collection agency. I was livid. Took ages to sort out.

I also used to work for them in their faults and complaints dept.
I walked out during my shift, horrible horrible company.

ZhenThereWereTwo · 08/06/2012 14:03

Speak to Gill Tranter in customer care (not call centre), she is management I believe, really helped me when call centre were talking nonsense. Call centre can get you a call back, be persistent about the fact that you will only speak to her.

porcamiseria · 08/06/2012 14:05

BT are CUNTS

on their knees in hell fellating the devil

I hate them

porcamiseria · 08/06/2012 14:06

I am actually scared to leave them, seriously. it will be months of stress

and as for when they kept me on hold for 1.45 minutes

CUNTS!!!! angry again

I saw the words "service" and "BT" in the same sentence, and snorted.

I've never had anything even approaching decent service with BT, I'm only still with them because when i set up my account i was too unassertive to tell them where to get off after all the hassle and now, nothing has gone wrong for a long time...

But if/when it does, I'm off. Their customer service is second to none in terms of sheer depravity. "Nonexistent" is too polite for a service that goes out of its way to make life WORSE for its customers, instead of just merely failing to make it better.

thecook · 08/06/2012 14:16

I am sorry you are having problems with BT.

I left them after 17 years last summer because a series of errors on their part.

carernotasaint · 08/06/2012 22:22

Thanks for all the replies ladies. And Zhen thanks for giving us the name of someone more helpful. I will make a note of her name in my notebook and on the latest bill. Thankyou. Much appreciated.

If you whinge at them nicely on twitter, you might get it sorted out. We realised this after weeks of lies from the people in the call centre. We were allocated a nice man in Northern Ireland who sorted out all the problems.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/06/2012 22:40

Have sent you a PM

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 09/06/2012 08:11

Am I the only one shocked about op's husband smashing up the phone??

Bunnyjo · 09/06/2012 08:21

Hate BT with a passion. A few years back, when I phoned them for my MAC code to transfer broadband providers, the man I spoke to in the retentions department actually called me a 'stupid idiot' for thinking I would get a better service elsewhere. I had not long had DD at the time and, although I made a complaint, I am not sure they dealt with it seriously of the outcome.

Sadly, now we live in the middle of nowhere, I have to use BT again for phone and broadband. My opinion of them has not changed one bit. Useless, useless company with poor service and appalling customer care.

Hassled · 09/06/2012 08:25

Interesting article re quite how crap BT are in the Guardian Money section last week - one customer got so cross he got on a train and went to BT Head Office.
