To prefer grated cheese?

OK, OK my boss is on leave today and I'm bored but still, how much better is Cheese in a sandwich/roll when it's grated. It's a sensation!

Have just eaten my Cheese and Pickle rolls with SLICED cheese and it's just not the same is it? Cold, rubbery (maybe this is because it's the value range I always buy)

ponders if buying a pre grated cheese supply for work and labelling 'Spice' is desperatley sad

YANBU. It is fact that grated cheese is better than sliced cheese for most things.

grated cheese in a sarnie, or roll or jacket potato etc is VILE. It makes me gag. seriously it does.

Only on top of spaghetti bolognaise, chilli or pasta and pesto/other sauce is it ok finely grated.

Sort yourself out woman.

I cant have sliced cheese it just doesnt taste the same If im having a cheese and pickle sandwhich it has to be grated BUT if i have cheese and krackers I prefer whole cheese,

YANBU.

DP always thinks I'm mad when I say that cheese in a sandwich has to be grated. Slices of cheese are just ....(can't put it into words)...too much (texture and taste wise)

I love cheese whether it's grated or sliced - so am fence-sitting on this one.
I don't like the way grated cheese falls out of sandwiches, so sliced is better; grated cheese in salads, obviously, or on top of pasta is fine.
Has to be grated in baked spuds of course!

Ready grated cheese is vile unless it's pizza mozzarella, which is already only worthy of being melted so it doesn't really matter.

grated is better and more cost effective in this house (dp never grates and can use a fecking shit load of cheese, think half a block, for a few sarnies/rolls! I think grated melts better as well. YANBU.

Yup it's the best! I buy a big chunk on offer, grate then freeze and get out as and when. Smile Fabulous. This makes it last longer as I'm a cheese snacker!

Am I slightly sick in the head odd to think that the weird coating on the pre grated cheese adds to it somewhat?

In my defence I'm 23 weeks pregnant and my idea of sheer heaven is either cheese and pickle or cheese and cucumber rolls, with loads of butter (and grated cheese obvs!)

Did I just say obvs? Blush

There's very little I wouldn't do for a small piece of cheese when the fridge is empty.

Juney, check the price per kg - I've found grated cheese is often cheaper than blocks (probably because they can use up all the ends of blocks, I suppose). So don't feel guilty!

Grated with pickle every time.

One hot tip from Great British Bake Off - if you're making cheese scones, always grate the cheese coarsely, rather than a fine grate, otherwise the you can hardly taste the cheese. The flavour simply disappears!

Grated cheese isn't always inferior cheese, it's all the little bits off the big blocks they cut for the deli so it can be quite naice Grin

The stuff they put on it to stop it sticking together is only a light dusting of potato starch.

I prefer slices in a sandwich- off a large block-less messy but a recent discovery of mixed grated mozzarella & cheddar is VERY useful for cooking!

The DD's always say its nicer grated.
