is this annoying? Or sweet?

My parents (well, DF and DSM) always hold hands. I mean always. When they are going for a walk, or out shopping, they have to hold hands. I'm not sure who the hand holder is Grin but they always do.

The thing is that it means when I'm trying to walk with them I have to walk in front or behind, because otherwise no one else can fit on the pavement or whatever. It's also a pain when it's busy - people are stepping around them, but no, they are one person it seems.

AIBU? I know it isn't life or death but it annoys me SO much!

I'm going to have to come down on the side of 'annoying'. Hand holding is for pre-schoolers, 13 yr olds and the over 95's. The little ones - well, it's cute and the oldies have earned the right to behave however they wish!

worrywortisworrying · 06/06/2012 18:52

Sweet. Unless they refuse to go out together.

thegreylady · 06/06/2012 18:52

Dh and always hold hands when we are out together. He is 76 and I am 68. The world would be a better place if all couples were sufficiently tender towards one another to hold hands :)

sensuallettuce · 06/06/2012 18:53

We do this Blush.

We even hold hands we he's driving (he has an automatic).

sensuallettuce · 06/06/2012 18:53

When!!! Doh!!

watermargin · 06/06/2012 18:53

thegreylady bless you! My DF and DSM are in their sixties (DF is the same age as you.)

I'd probably think it was sweet if I didn't know them! Grin

Nancy66 · 06/06/2012 18:54

ahhh I think it's sweet.

Pontouf · 06/06/2012 18:55

DH and I hold hands. All the time, whenever we walk anywhere. We are 31 and 32.

Trioofprinces · 06/06/2012 18:56

DH and I usually hold hands but break away if we're getting in the way of anyone else. Wouldn't hold hands if it meant family members having to walk separately.

I think holding hands is sweet as long as it doesn't get in people's way. It shows you're still tender with each other. After 18 years I'm glad dh atill wants to hold my hand!

Whoever said it's for kids and over 95s, how sad!!

MsKittyFane · 06/06/2012 18:56

Nope. Annoying. When you talk to them do they consult each other before answering? Couples who are 'one person' are annoying. :(

KurriKurri · 06/06/2012 18:57

Dh and I always hold hands - we always have done, we are in our fifties, our feelings about each other haven't changed since we started hand holding, so we've carried on Smile

I would let go of his hand if it was inconveniencing someone though or stopping someone getting past us.

sensuallettuce · 06/06/2012 18:57

Joint email is annoying...

Trioofprinces · 06/06/2012 18:58

Sensuallettuce - I agree completely, joint email or Facebook is so annoying, aren't they individual people??

watermargin · 06/06/2012 18:58

To be honest trioofprinces it DOES get in people's way quite a bit. I mainly witness it in busy places, such as a shopping centre on a Saturday. People are always having to stop to let them pass, while if they released one another now and again Grin people wouldn't have to!

LentillyFart · 06/06/2012 18:58

Crikey! You all think it's sweet and normal? Shock

If my DH tried to hold my hand I'd assume he was about to fall down. Either that or was looking for a right twatting for acting like a weirdo!

monkeymoma · 06/06/2012 18:59

we hold hands, I'ld been out with a few cads before DH who wouldn't hold hands in public incase one of their other girlfriends or potential other girlfriends saw Sad DH doesn't care how it looks to other women Grin - tis a novelty for me even after over a decade together after having such a bad run of men before him!

cheesesarnie · 06/06/2012 18:59

i think its lovely and dont understand how it could be anything but!

wish dh wanted to hold my hand occasionally

sensuallettuce · 06/06/2012 19:00

Joint FB is just weird....Hmm

Pandemoniaa · 06/06/2012 19:00

I'm affectionate with DP but I don't really do holding hands with anyone. Never have though so it's not just me being an intolerant old gimmer.

Each to their own, mind but it does get my goat a little when it inconveniences other people.

Emandlu · 06/06/2012 19:01

Dh and I hold hands - we had to stop when the DC's were little because of the buggy, but we hold hands again now.I like it. It's a bit wierd to never let go even if you're in someones way though.

Trioofprinces · 06/06/2012 19:02

Ok, annoying IF it gets in people's way then. But like anything, in moderation and with consideration for others is best.

MissFaversham · 06/06/2012 19:02

I'm half half on this one, it's sweet but annoying at the same time.

My sister is like this with her other half and it drives me mad. All the conquetish looks and silly high pitched laughter grrrrrrr.

anonacfr · 06/06/2012 19:03

Holding hands when driving????? Shock

I was sitting next to a couple on a plane once who held hands throughout the flight, including meal time (and this was back they gave out hot food, not manky sandwiches). I thought that was absurd, but driving????

monkeyfacegrace · 06/06/2012 19:04

Oh hell you lot would hate me. We hold hands, cuddle, kiss, link arms constantly. And in the 5 years since we had a one night stand with each other Grin we havent ever had a night in seperate beds.
Boak all you like, but we love each other Grin
[sick bucket]

monkeyfacegrace · 06/06/2012 19:04

Oh, driving its hands on each others knees.
