I am pregnant with a history of digestive issues. i am on omeprazole on prescription anyway. Even when not pregnant i have sometimes had to top up with Gaviscon. I have purchased thit over the counter. However, in the last week the symptons have got worse. I have spent a fortune already on Gaviscon and I think now is the time to get in on prescription.

YANBU. Go for it.

brightermornings · 04/06/2012 19:45

I drank in by the bottle load when I was pregnant with dd I got it on prescription. I gave up using a spoon Grin

Pascha · 04/06/2012 19:45

No of course yanbu. its routinely prescribed for thousands of pregnant women, no reason why you should be any different.

WhiteWidow · 04/06/2012 19:49

Get it whilst you can. That's what I say! X

Stealthfart · 04/06/2012 19:53

When I asked my GP for it they gave me cheap Peptac which I found wasn't as good and doesn't taste as nice. Ended up paying for the proper stuff anyway..

raininginbaltimore · 04/06/2012 19:53

I got it on prescription and plan on doing so this time. They can give you the good stuff on prescription too. I used to carry a bottle with me a swig from it.

smokinaces · 04/06/2012 19:54

My midwife prescribed the giant bottles for me when I was pregnant. I swigged it out the bottle like an alcoholic. Yanbu.

Bunnyjo · 04/06/2012 20:26

GP prescibed me the huge bottles in the last trimester of both pregnancies, he was fab and even asked which flavour I would like (had developed an aversion to mint and sweet things, so aniseed it was). I was honestly swigging it out of the bottle every night and going through a bottle every 7-10days!

SaltResistantSlug · 04/06/2012 20:33

YABU. The Rennie chews/fruit chalk things are MUCH nicer :)

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 04/06/2012 20:35

YANBU - specify that it has to be gaviscon

really feeling for all you pregnant ladies at the mo

omeprazole was my friend last time - it must be really bad if that is not helping

WhosPickleisThatOnion · 04/06/2012 20:35

Yanbu I bought it at first when pg and started to ask for it as it was costing a fortune. I had bottles everywhere and glugged it like pop.

Angelico · 04/06/2012 20:44

So glad I'm not the only savage drinking it from the bottle :o

Pharmacist told me off for buying it and lactulose a few weeks back, told me I should be getting it on prescription. I'm not using it enough to begrudge paying but if I was getting through bottles of the stuff might be different...

manchestermummy · 04/06/2012 20:45

YANBU. Don't hesitate to ask - my GP also asked which flavour. I took waaaay over the stated dosage...

elliejjtiny · 04/06/2012 20:47

yy salt. I forced down gaviscon while pg with DS1 and then discovered rennies with DS2.

CelstialNavigation · 04/06/2012 20:48

In Ireland we can have aniseed on prescription but not mint

Threeprinces · 04/06/2012 20:54

Of course YANBU, I swigged it from the isn't bottles when pregnant too! I got it on repeat prescription both times, went through a giant bottle a week! Certainly no spoons involved!!

shuffleballchange · 04/06/2012 20:56

YANBU. I got through gallons of that vile stuff during both pregnancies. All on prescription. Eurgh, its making me gag just thinking about it.

saladcream · 04/06/2012 21:00

Thanks ladies. I was starting to doubt myself.

Yanbu, I'm going to be asking for the same thing myself this week. I also would Neck it straight from the bottle as I could do this at 3 am without putting the light on to use a spoon. Bloody marvellous stuff. The tablets are more convenient but not Nearly as good.

samithesausage · 05/06/2012 02:38

Yanbu. Swig it from the bottle! Actually being pregnant you are not supposed to buy over the counter stuff, the doctor is supposed to prescribe it for you..... (something to do with monitoring what drugs you are taking whilst pregnant)... So your conscience is clear!

WandaDoff · 05/06/2012 02:40

My lovely Dr put Gaviscon on repeat prescription for me during my last pregnacy.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/06/2012 02:41

I slept with a bottle in my hand. Unfortunately, I am not joking.

wonkylegs · 05/06/2012 02:49

I drank so much that I can't touch the stuff since pregnancy just a whiff makes me heave. I have to take omeprazole every day now due to other meds and it's far better mind you low dose does nothing for me, since Doc adjusted the dose I'm fine.
Speak to GP the worst they can say is no and you'll be where you are now anyway.

Babylon1 · 05/06/2012 02:55

OMG YADNBU!!

I would have it plumbed in, let alone on prescription. I managed to persuade dr to double up the prescription for me so I was collecting 2 x 500ml bottles of Gaviscon Advance fortnightly Grin

Beckamaw · 05/06/2012 03:59

No way!
My GP routinely prescribed Gaviscon Advance along with my Omeprazole when I was pregnant.
possibly because I was honest about the quantity of Zantac I had been necking in order to survive day to day
