To think most 84 year olds do not have such a busy weekend

I am not a supporter of the Monarchy but I am very impressed that an 84 year old has the energy to go to the races, spend a day in the rain going up the Thames and do everything else she has done this last month.

I know my Gran couldn't do that - much happier with her feet up watching Countdown with a pot of tea.

Even better - she is actually 86!

Well she hasnt had a hard life has she? She stands around waving and then goes home and does sweet FA.

YANBU at all.. and it must be tiring too.

Ok, she has assistants to help with everything, but she still has to get up, get going, and put on a smile. I would imagine it is hard work.

I'm not a huge fan of the Royal family, but they do bring a lot of tourism to the country
To be fair to both the Queen and Prince Philip though, they are still extremely active, think a good few younger people could learn from them!

I would disagree about her not having a "hard life".

Yes, she has always lived in utmost luxury, but she still lost her father at an early age and with that came the sort of responsibility that very few women her age could handle. As most of us know, just travelling itself is tiring, even if you have everyone doing everything for you. Constantly being scrutinised and in the public eye cant be easy either.

Add to her age is the fact she's a Myers-Briggs ISTJ type (apparently) like me.

I would definitely be opting for Countdown and a cuppa! Or get a convincing doppelgänger to do it all for me.

my nan who is 80 still goes abroad and uk hoilday 6 times a year. Infact i haven't seen her in approx 2 months and she only lives 10 minutes away as her social life is jammed pack.

I hope she continues for along time like this and spends every last penny she has doing so.

YANBU. I am no Royalist but I think she's amazing and feel terribly sorry for her. Though yesterday DD got to hold the Olympic torch of a local 81 year old who is still very physically active (local athlete type) so perhaps I'm in a minority for feeling ancient and achey at 35!

Lots of 86 year olds have help putting on their shoes.

When you're an introvert, being in a job where you're on display, smiley, chatty etc all damn day is SO TIRING.

I'm sure any of your jobs could be pretty easily dismissed by someone who hasn't ever been in your shoes.

Regardless of whether the royal family is liked or not, she's a pretty incredible woman and I think it's far under-appreciated by most how much she actually does day to day!

It really doesn't matter that she has a luxurious life. When your body is 86 years old it's wearing out. Doing so much in one weekend and standing all that time on the boat watching the boats go by must take quite a toll on her. She'll need a couple weeks to recuperate surely. That, and some hot tea and a hot water bottle.

My great grandma is 90 and her social life is a lot better than me! She goes bingo every weekend and goes out for lunch and drinks with friends of a similar age!

she has never in her life had the stress of wondering how to pay for heating, where her next meal is coming from, loooking after 4 kids alone. Stress ages you.

Gosh, has she been pushing those paddles today? I bet choosing a horse to put your money on is taxing.

The Queen is 20 years past retirement age and still working hard. I'm impressed. She has done her duty throughout. Very few people have the stamina she has.

Even 26 years past working women's retirement age. She hasn't worked, though, really. Just smile and wave, just smile and wave.

She has led a hugely cosseted life and has never had the stresses and strains in life other people have. I doubt she has ever made a meal or loaded a washer. I'm sure my Gran would still be going strong had she led the same life of priviledge
