i was at the local gala day today with DP and DS met up with my mum stepdad and Dniece, they had rides 5 mins down the road so we left DS (17 weeks with my mum and dad in his buggy sleeping while we went down to go on the rides. Mum and dad were in the cafe while DN was in the games hall having a ball.

So a woman i know from mother and toddlers is standing watching her DP and DS (14yrs) on the ride we were on with her DS2 (7 mo) came off and she said oh wheres baby? i said with my mum she said hmm lucky for some ditching there baby to have fun!!

AIBU to say she just wishes she had someone to watch her baby so she could go on them?

It was just a passing remark, I wouldn't read too much into it Smile

BombasticAghast · 02/06/2012 21:36

You're over thinking.

She meant nothing, was just trying to make conversation.

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2012 21:37

Oh please

And you took that comment seriously and to heart

Really?

DamnBamboo · 02/06/2012 21:39

Really?

MummySunshine · 02/06/2012 21:40

I'm pretty sure she didn't mean anything by it, but when you have a small baby it's hard not to take a comment like that very personally and she should probably know that.

Dprince · 02/06/2012 21:40

she was probably making a joke. Really, if this upsets you to try and develops slightly thicker skin.

MmeLindor. · 02/06/2012 21:40

It was just a passing comment, and likely not meant in a nasty way.

Ignore and forget, it is not worth getting upset about.

CrumpettyTree · 02/06/2012 21:40

She said you were lucky. ie. She wishes she could do the same. So she wasn't criticising you.

Kayano · 02/06/2012 21:41

I tell people I am ditching my kid all the time when in reality my mother has asked to have her while
I nip out for milk

It's a generic joke comment

I intend to ditch her when the Hoppins comes to Newcastle so I can go on all the rides Grin

lola88 · 02/06/2012 21:41

no not really shes just got ride envy :)

Jokes on me i shoulda stayed with DS i lost my phone going upside down :( boo

God you'd hate me then OP

I normally say something like, "Where's baby? Locked in the cupboard at home? Nice one, just slide some flat food under the door".

I have no idea if anyone's ever taken offence but really it's not my problem.

lola88 · 02/06/2012 21:46

I wouldn't worra honestly just slightly pissed and bored watching bloody xbox.

I really did ditch DS tonight to sit and get drunkity with DP hehe should i go tell her?

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2012 21:48

Yeah turn up on her doorstep swigging a bottle of wine and singing filthy songs Grin

lola88 · 02/06/2012 21:50

susiedaisy · 02/06/2012 21:53

The word ditching would get up my nose if I'm honest but other than that I wouldn't worry too much!

lola88 · 02/06/2012 22:04

She's very annoying i've already had 'no no don't touch that it's naughty' when her DS pointed at my tattoo (tiny on my wrist), Oh theres a young mums group for people like you at the community centre i'm 25 and it's for under 18's and oh you wear a lot of make up for a morning i couldn't find the time.

She's sounds patronising I wouldn't bother with her if I were you. Noone needs to be put down or put in their place by 'friends' or ' acquaintances' that's what parents are forGrin

AThingInYourLife · 03/06/2012 09:49

I would probably try to stop my DC touching someone's tattoo.

Not because the tatt was naughty, but because it's not polite to just touch someone like that and they might not like it.

aldiwhore · 03/06/2012 10:04

YABU only because its usually ME that declares "woohoo I've ditched and run!" with utter pride. ;)
