I ordered some foreign money on line and went to our local Sainsbo's (shop within a shop) to collect it this morning. The first things I noticed were their Jubilee bunting and a Union flag upside down. The whole lot needed to be turned round. I mentioned it to the foreign money cashier, telling him that it was currently disrespectful, and he said he'd see to it when he had a minute (there was no one in the queue behind me). He had no idea what the right way round was.

I thought about standng there and waiting while he did it but I had gone there with a neighbour for shopping as well as the money so couldn't.

As long as you stood and sang all the verses to God save the Queen (even the bad ones) and paid a small homage to the national treasure that is Gary Barlow it'll be ok.

BubbleBobble · 02/06/2012 13:06

Seriously? You'd complain over that? Wow, if that's what you get upset about, can I have your life please? It must be wonderful.

peppercold · 02/06/2012 13:09

Are you Norris from Corrie?

MainlyMaynie · 02/06/2012 13:09

How is it possible to hang bunting upside down?

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2012 13:14

Haha definitely Norris!

QuintessentialShadows · 02/06/2012 13:18

How do you make bunting stand on its head?
How can a flag hang upside down?

Do you think there were supernatural forces at work?

The Union Flag is not a parallel image. When you hang it correctly you will see that the uppermost white stripe on the left side of the flag (where a mast would be) is thicker than the others.

I learned this when I read How to Help Build Up the Empire: A Handbook for Girl Guides. [girl guide nerd emoticon]

QuintessentialShadows · 02/06/2012 13:26

I would very much like to read a book called " How to Help Build An Empire" Grin

nickelbarapasaurus · 02/06/2012 13:40

you have to have the thick white stripe at the top nearest the flag pole.

it can be hung upside down with no ill-effect (cos it's got 180 rotational symmetry) but not backwards (no mirror symmetry)

You can't hang bunting upside down surely. The flags are already attached.

JeezyPeeps · 02/06/2012 14:10

So, they hung their bunting point-side up? Wierd indeed!

CrispyCod · 02/06/2012 14:11

Phew...I saw Thomas Cook and thought it was going to be a thread about seaweed again. Grin

KenNEddieKennedy · 02/06/2012 14:13

What about bunting being triangle shaped.

Treason?

gordyslovesheep · 02/06/2012 14:20

report them to the police and see them thrown in the Tower

nickelbarapasaurus · 02/06/2012 14:43

(i had a visit from my friend - realised I hadn't posted that Blush
thought I'd post it anyway!)

FlippinCheekOfIt · 02/06/2012 17:01

I was scared to open this thread. Thought it might be about seaweed and sangria.

LAlady · 02/06/2012 17:51

Just been in our local. The Union Jack flag is hanging the wrong way round. Landlord admits he wasn't sure. It's now being turned round the correct way as a number of people have commented.
