AIBU to have put DCs to bed ..

All day they have sniped at each other, answered back, not listened to me, made going to Sainsburys HELL.. Culminating in full blown punching each other in the garden. They're 8 and 6.

I feel terrible. It's been one of the worst days ever. They're normally so good. I ended up on my knees crying. I couldn't take any more.

If this is the start of half term, I dread to think how it is going to end!

I love them o much and hate the sound of them crying in bed, but I just don't know way else to do?

YANBU. They will be fine left to cry and maybe they will be better behaved tomorrow. Don't cave!

ParanoidAnnie · 01/06/2012 19:14

Still crying .... The DCs not me!

They're old enough to link consequence to behaviour.

They're safe and fed and warm.

Open Wine and plan something nice for a fresh start tomorrow :)

JubileeTatWearer · 01/06/2012 19:23

Wine and [earplugs] for OP.

OutInAllWeathers · 01/06/2012 19:30

YANBU they are old enough to connect the behaviour with the consequence and proving your point now may make them think in future. Sometimes I regret the consequences I've set eg leaving a friends house but I do still follow through.

ParanoidAnnie · 01/06/2012 19:34

I have Wine and chocolate. Still crying (secretly admiring their stamina).

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. A full nights sleep and all that. It has been a long hard week, with illness, sleep deprivation and the like. Perhaps it is just taking it's toll.

I have honestly never known anything as bad. Why can't they just get on? Why all the bickering. They fought for over half an hour this morning over who should pick the lid of the toothpaste up. I should have known it didn't bode well for the rest of the day.

DD2 went to bed screaming 'you've broken my spine' at DD1, who had tapped her back on the way past!

TheUnsinkableTitanic · 01/06/2012 19:36

sorry, but lol at "you've broken my spine"

sympathies op

ParanoidAnnie · 01/06/2012 19:47

Now that things are quiet I am having a small snigger myself!

iwantbrie · 01/06/2012 20:04

YANBU at all, mine will be going as soon as I've stopped mumsnetting fed the baby, they're driving me to drink...

COCKadoodledooo · 01/06/2012 20:18

Sorry op - your dc sound just like me and my big sis (same age gap). We didn't improve until she went to university..

Hope the rest of the week is less traumatic.

ComposHat · 01/06/2012 20:23

Bang their heads together?

My munmm used to threaten it, but my Gran did it to me and my sister once and by christ did it hurt.

NB. This is not a serious suggestion.

ParanoidAnnie · 01/06/2012 20:34

I left them in bed. One glass of Wine down. They cried themselves to sleep after a failed attempt to collude together to get back in my good books.

Iwantbrie hope you get some peace and quiet soon!

Compos - I could literally bang their heads together. Maybe knock some sense into thm.

skybluepearl · 01/06/2012 20:35

yes early night - you have one too and the world will seem brighter tomorrow.

skybluepearl · 01/06/2012 20:38

try sending them to their rooms each time they argue badly. 5 mins to reflect and then calmly request they sort issues out more nicely. If not - back to their rooms again for 10 mins.

alphabite · 01/06/2012 20:38

They need to apologise to you and to each other tomorrow morning. YANBU to put them to bed.

TheHouseOnTheCorner · 01/06/2012 20:40

Oh YANBU!! I did the same the other day and asked on here too! They sometimes need an early night..

TheOneWithTheCrown · 01/06/2012 20:41

If you want to feel better about them arguing have a read of this. It's shocking!

ParanoidAnnie · 01/06/2012 21:07

Theonewiththecrown some of them are shocking! Don't feel so bad now, but slightly worried about the future!

I've had the apologies. I'm sure DH will make them apologise properly when he gets home tomorrow.

Skybluepearl. I done just that today. Things improved for a while, then they just can't seem to keep it up. Tbh DD2 is the worst. She is a 'character' !!

OP posts:
TheOneWithTheCrown · 01/06/2012 21:17

Grin @ "character".

I have one of those too. :)

alphabite · 02/06/2012 11:47
