Not an AIBU as such

Situation is I have handed in my notice at work as can't return from maternity leave (too many reasons but both parties happy).

If and that's a big IF, we decide to try again soon, I feel that going for job interviews is unfair to my potential new employer.

We can afford, just, for me to have a good few more months off work ... but if I have no job when pregnant would I be entitled to any maternity pay/allowance/any help?

If not, that's fine, I'd just like to know where we stand financially and whether it would be best to wait a few years for another child when I've established another job?

If you are not employed, you have to have been employed for a minimum number of weeks during the leading up to having your baby in order to qualify for SMA (stat mat allowance).

You will need to go to a government website to check this; it's quite straightforward

Either way, you'll only get the basic which isn't much so surely it would be better to wait until you're in a better position financially before having a second child, if there is nothing else holding you back.
