Just a thought Grin

But if we are struggling as a Country, financially, as a Country

Why don't the Royal family contribute and sell their holiday homes and put they money back in the economy?

No I do not think they attend everyone, just saying that I saw them. Would they really change the guard in such a cerominial way though, why would they use the army, surely if Buckingham Palace became privately owned they would have private security. Not that I think Buckingham Palace would ever be sold.

I am Australian so when I first moved to London I did all the toursity things. When we have had visitors from Australia and from other parts of Europe they always want to see Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and a lot of the time hope to see Royality.

I really think you need to ask people who are visiting the country what they think to get a fair opinion.

Whoa op You've found out the hard way that any criticism of her Queen the majesty (gawd bless all who sail in her) will bring forth a furious reaction from a sizeable number of royalist mumsnetters, as I found to my cost.

To them she can do no wrong and they treat her with a slavish devotion that would make Kim Jong Il embarrassed.

But even as a republican, I would say YABU in your original post. Balmoral is her private residence and even as a dyed in the wool antimonarchist I would baulk at the idea of the state arbitrarily seizing people's private property.

An far more pertinent question is whether the Queen needs a Palace in (palace of holyroodhouse) Scotland that she occupies for little over a week a year.

nowt wrong with being proud of the royal family. plus they give us extra bank holidays when one gets married, or has a jubilee.

MissFaversham · 30/05/2012 19:48

I'm a royalist and proud of our Queen.

quite fancy William and Harry too Grin

OhdearNigelosaurus · 30/05/2012 19:50

OP - can I suggest that you sell your property and give the money to the Treasury. I'm sure we could do with the money

ComposHat: interesting post. I don't see any of it as a "furious reaction", though supporters do seem to be in the vast majority (here, and according to polls, in UK as a whole).

The is a Palace at Holyrood because of the Act of Union, and an acknowledged line from James VI to Elizabeth II.
