If Qatar can't even build a nursery properly, how the hell are they going to build a stadium! 13 babies dead!!!

Have the causes been established already? (ie that it was construction fault and not human error).

confusedgypsychick · 29/05/2012 06:57

The sprinklers didn't work, the fire doors were locked with pad locks, the alarms were so quiet that people shopping didn't even know they were going off. Also, the nursery was located at the end of a long passage near the food court with no alternative means out.

different countries have very different safety standards from ours. we moan about our obsessed health and safety culture but it means things like this are v unlikely to happen. unfortunately for the rest of the population, fifa will insist that all new stadia are built and maintained to europe h and s standards. they wont however give a monkeys about hotels and bars. i cant afford to go to this world cup but then as a woman why would i want to go.

How ridiculous!!

Wonder what the rest of the world think about our 'disasters'.....

porcamiseria · 29/05/2012 08:24

what a horrible nasty post

I live here in Qatar, and this is just an example of exactly how shabby there standards are. It's a shame 19 people had to die, but to not have working sprinklers and pad locks on the emergency doors? Most people here already doubt Qatar's ability to host the world cup. This was the straw that broke the camels back in my opinion.

"i cant afford to go to this world cup but then as a woman why would i want to go."

Why indeed? We women should stick to netball and all those other girlie sports shouldn't we?

Hmm

That aside there are numerous reasons why Qatar is viewed as a questionable choice but then FIFA isn't necessarily known for its rationality.
