AIBU?

Can't be bothered with all this Jubilee stuff. Unreasonable?

Oh god, I wish it were over. Is it meant to cheer us up, in these cash strapped times, to witness a load of over privileged, horse faced folk, being cheered and revered? We're meant to marvel at the longevity of our sovereign? Erm, why exactly? Is it really such hard work, spending a lifetime being carried about, no money worries, eating the best/having the best/...... And all those sodding holidays?

The security alone for HM tour of her people, in her Jubilee year, must be costing a fortune. "ah yes but, they bring in millions in revenue". Really? More than they cost us?

A lovely neighbour of ours is organising a little party in our cul-de-sac. I don't want to offend, but really, I don't want to go. The whole thing gets on my nerves.

All the royalists out there will flame me but, I just don't get it, at all.

dawn that's just a bit tragic. Who came up with that idea. Can you imagine the meeting where that was proposed...

And to OldGreyWiffleTest, I think you'll find dictators are quite keen on flag waving celebrations of their longevity Grin

When you meet Queenie, 1st time you call her Your Maj, and thereafter M'am, not as in MARMite but to rhyme with ham.
I'm not a royalist, but can't wait for the river parade. Thousands of boats on the Thames; it will take about 90 minutes to pass. Longest carnival parade I will have ever seen!

I don't understand how anyone can think that attending public engagements pretty much every day of your life for 60 years is not hard work. Can you immagine meeting a bunch of nervous people in hats day after day after day and always having to be cheerful, must be so boringl. Never, ever 'taking a sickie' and knowing you'll be doing that forever! She doesn't just 'turn up and get cheered' she talks to people. She may not write the letters herself but she spends several hours a day reading them and government documents.

What you cynics are forgetting is that for many people recieving a letter signed by the Queen is a really special thing. ANd most people who meet her are impressed and remember the occasion for the rest of their lives. So although wnat she does may not involve buses and cooking she makes a difference to people! And that is why lots of people will be having a good knees up!!

I don't give a stuff about the jubilee or the bloody Olympics,

But

I love all the parties/bbqs etc around it all.

We have a street party for most thugs and I love going to them despite the reason, its nice to all get together.

I'm also loving all the union flag stuff, even if it is a bit overkill.

I mean custard cream cupcakes and a wrap made out of Yorkshire pud and stuffed with beef and roast spuds? Yum yum!

Yawn yawn. And there will be another one along in 10 years time and probably another 10 years after that. The Queen is sure to live to past 100, like her mother, then she can send herself a telegram.

I don't know anyone, parents' generation included, who is remotely interested in this Jubilee other than it's a long weekend.

It is quite simple- don't take part. You don't have to get involved in any way.

I support the monarchy in general, but I have never gone out of my way to see the Queen, I am not going to anything- unless something unexpected turns up.
