YY - hate playdates too

all that interaction and socialising with other people, i mean you have to be soooo tolerant don't you?

Dancergirl · 20/05/2012 09:22

YANBU!!!!

I hate them too. Very difficult though as everyone else seems to use this term.

LST · 20/05/2012 09:29

What's YY? Blush

PoppyWearer · 20/05/2012 09:31

Not a big fan of Play Dates - but what do we call them then?

YY is yes yes (as in, I agree VERY much).

springydaffs · 20/05/2012 09:41

I tend to use any shortform that gets the point across as quickly as possible, so don't care about using cheesey/annoying phrases; though I don't like jargon as the whole point is communication and I don't like communication to be elitist

though I draw the line at americanisms, which seem to have crept into our culture unnoticed. My biggest bugbear is 'right now', which I read in a novel recently, which was set in britain in the 1950s. I've also heard it used in historical dramas ffs ie 16th C. People don't even notice they're using it but script writers, surely, should be aware??

Follyfoot · 20/05/2012 09:41

'Playing with' poppy bearer?

PS unchartered I think you misunderstood....

AKissIsNotAContract · 20/05/2012 09:44

Do people use YY when speaking? I thought it was just an internet thing.

Follyfoot · 20/05/2012 09:46

Anyone else noticed the latest one? Starting a sentence with 'so'. Listen out for politicians doing it at the start of interviews.

Blimey I've woken up raging this morning Grin

OP posts:
UnChartered · 20/05/2012 09:47

nah, i got you Grin

glad you're laughing now though

springydaffs · 20/05/2012 09:59

the other one is people saying 'crate' instead of 'create'

plus playdate is an americanism

FeakAndWeeble · 20/05/2012 10:05

'Crate' Confused ?

springydaffs · 20/05/2012 10:10

they're probably posh but it gets on my nerves

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 20/05/2012 10:20

Yy a Nd all that but what about 'listen'and 'look' and the beginning of a sentence?
That is beyond rude and Cameron does it all the time. I cannot believe it has become acceptable

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/05/2012 11:00

The phrase School run -
"I'm just off to do the school run now".

Makes me stabby.

WorraLiberty · 20/05/2012 11:30

I don't mind YY because I do say "yeah yeah" in RL for some reason.

Detest 'play dates'

People who start opening posts with the word 'So' make me want to do all manner of things to them with a pair of blunt knitting needles.

GnocchiNineDoors · 20/05/2012 11:36

Mummy anything. Yummy Mummy, Mummy Time, Mummys Night Out. A mummy is a dead body wrapped in bandages.

I also dislike 'running errands'.

springydaffs · 20/05/2012 12:23

yy you just hear 'you idiot' after starting a sentence with 'look' or 'listen'
