On saturday my sis (who's severely autistic) was out with a relative.
Because of her disability she does pull faces etc not at people just in general.
a couple and a dog on the bench infront turned around and said.

'What!!!' really loudly
the rel just said I didnt say anything.
they then said 'She's rude!!!!!' etc having a pop.
told the relative, told them to back off as they were minding their own buisness.
At that point the girl came over with the dog and said 'I'll set this on ya!'
DR said if you dont go away I'm calling the police, she apparently had another go but both of them walked off.

The girl did set the dog on them both , my sister is terrified of dogs Angry

put thankfully the dog decided not to bother.

AIBU to be horrifed that people like this exist?/

:o of course you ANNBU!!! Pity your relative didn't call the cops for the abuse/setting the dog on them

holmesgirl · 16/05/2012 07:39

Unfortunately they do exist and are a total scourge. I am sorry for what happened to your rel and sis. Your rel should have phoned the police anyway. The girl obviously intended the dog to attack. Unfortunately there is no reasoning with complete morons.

RubyGates · 16/05/2012 08:16

I wish your relative had called the police. That poor dog who is living with a complete moron, will one day, attack someone and will then have to be destroyed.

If she'd called the police it could possibly have been removed and rehomed with someone who could train it properly.

There really should be some kind of dog-owners course. Not just a licence for owning the dog, but an actual course you have to pass like a driving test.

Your poor sister. Sad

ScarlettAlexandra · 16/05/2012 08:22

she should of reported them. even small dogs can be really scary and i can bet it wasn't a pug and something like a pit bull / staffie type.

horrid horrid people.

AnyoneforTurps · 16/05/2012 08:40

Sadly I do believe they exist because I work with lots of people like this (patients, not colleagues!). What they did was totally unacceptable and it must have been very frightening for the relative who was with your DS, as well as your DS herself.

For the future, the family might want to consider a slightly different tactic if confronted by idiots like this. (NB I am not in any way blaming your relative for what happened but just passing on training I have had about dealing with aggressive people). Unfortunately, ignoring them or telling to mind their own business (however justified) tends to escalate the situation - they are looking for a response and will escalate their behaviour until they get one. Instead state in a calm, low voice "I am sorry that you are upset but she has autism". Look at them but avoid prolonged eye contact. Then walk calmly away.

It is very sad that this is necessary and it goes against the grain to placate aggressive numbskulls but sometimes it is easier just to diffuse the situation. You will never win an argument with them because they are not interested in a debate, they are interested in having their pathetic egos soothed.

the police are now involved
thats why I left some details out.

but straight after on DR was about to make a statement afterwards but saw them see him on the phone and panicked.

yeah Anyone good point they said how much they restrained themselves becasue dsis was there. DR did say the looked like addicts may be relevant, but I'm sure not many addicts are even that sadistic naive emoticon

Sad and Angry on your sister's behalf.
There are some total morons in the wild, stupid stupid stupid people.
Hope you get some resolution and the dog gets a new owner.

pumpkinsweetie · 16/05/2012 09:51

Unfortunetly will always have uneducated morons who are full of hate and love to be prejudiced against anyone that is disabled or is different in any way.
YADNBU - i hope your relative called the police

IAmBooyhoo · 16/05/2012 09:55
