To cancel next weekend away because DH made me late for work?

Because of 'D' H hiding one of my shoes this morning I was late for work. I got into trouble and in order to keep the peace I offered to work saturday instead. This has in effect, cancelled a weekend away I had with DH which he was looking forward to. Totally his own fault IMO or have I over done it?

If you would prefer to work on a Saturday than have a weekend away with your DH then either your job is amazing or your relationship crap.

I was ready to YABU but what? He hid a shoe? If he was having a joke he should have 'found' it before making you late really. It's ashame he has lost out on the weekend but he's not 4!

I would have to keep the peace at work, it's not worth losing goodwill over when you might need it for a proper reason. Silly sausage.

It may seem weird but my work don't have enough people to cover an early without notice. Sickness is different than lateness.

But if I have to call in because of the kids or an emergency they are good about it, my colleagues pick up the slack and I appreciate it. I wouldn't want to throw that back at them over this tbh.

Work shoes, play shoes, wellies. Otherwise it goes on the kids.

perfectly reasonable that people not employed in an office only have 1 pair of work shoes. When I was a police officer I had one pair of work boots, likewise when I was a pastry chef.

Isn't it punishing you to cancel the weekend away too? Couldn't you have just done an hour at the end of the day?

It's like when you tell your per schooler that you will have to go home if they don't start behaving nicely, then you have to abandon your coffee and gossip.

But surely working on a Saturday is a punishment for you, not him.
