Just that really. Bag of lentils (unopened) and I've noticed the date is 2009 Blush. Should I throw them out or are lentils never ending?

I think I've got an older one that I'm keeping to make a mosaic with some day

Noqontrol · 14/05/2012 23:13

That recipe looks gorgeous. But I don't think I would use lentils that are 3 yrs out of date. I have no logical reason for that though.

StealthPolarBear · 14/05/2012 23:13

Moonlight, the pie is for tomorrow :o
Yes, definitey a best before, doubt you'd get dried pulses with a use by. But there's best before and then there's "You've got to be kidding"

pre-cook the lentils first, then use as the recipe dictates

PestoPenguin · 14/05/2012 23:16

Make a soft beanbag toy instead?

MoonlightandRoses · 14/05/2012 23:23

Ah, so we'll check the news tomorrow night then Smile.

Seriously though, lentils - urgh (nearly as bad as that A&E thread that's live at the moment if you ask me).

Kleptronic · 14/05/2012 23:30

This thread made me laugh. No idea why, but I was proper chortling. Thanks to all the participants, I needed that.

Kleptronic · 15/05/2012 00:00

Thread murderer that I am, I hasten to add, I'd eat them, and I wasn't being sarky. With a ham shank, I'd make pea whack. 'Tis regional, but the copious amounts of salt in the shank'd sterilise any rogue wildlife. That and ham shanks and farts would have me rolling about with tears of mirth obscuring my vision, which is probably for the best.

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2012 00:03

Feel free to pop round tomorrow for some nottage pie.
I say that, but imagine if you did :o. Hi I'm off the internet

I (unknowingly) gave ds 3 year out of date baked beans tonight. He threw up an hour ago. Don't eat the lentils!

Monty27 · 15/05/2012 00:10

Cooked weevils mmmmmmm. yikes

FootprintsInTheSnow · 15/05/2012 00:15

They'll be non toxic, but may fail to flly soften with cooking

Kleptronic · 15/05/2012 00:16

Cor, continlentils in nottage pie I'll wear a 'hi I'm off teh interweb' badge so you know it's me. I thought I coined 'relationshit' today but on reflection I reckon it must have gone before me 10 million billion times.

40not my mother almost fed my and my child 8 year old tinned salmon the other week, it's only because I had a flashback to her screeching 'not the red salmon! It's for visitors!' as a toebiter that I swooped and checked the date on the tin. There's no room in the bad mother corner, as you were!
