To expect to receive my bikini wax?

I bought an offer from a beauty salon which was 6 waxes for the price of 5. I've only had 3 out of the 6 and now they say my card is invalid as its 5 years old. However they never told me of a time limit on it!

AIBU to expect them to cough up? I don't even want to go back to the salon now anyway after their attitude but I am well annoyed that I've paid for 5 waxes and only received 3.

5 years?!!

Not sure where you stand legally, but 5 yrs?! Grin

ENormaSnob · 08/05/2012 13:12

Bloody hell, how long do you grow it between waxes? Wink

yanbu though, they should have specified any time restrictions. Does it not say on the card?

1gglePiggle · 08/05/2012 13:13

Yes I know what you're thinking, I've got a forest down there! Grin

Actually I usually DIY with an epilator but usually go professional when I've got a holiday coming up!

Maybe they've used enough wax for 6 on the 3 you had done?

Stellarforstar · 08/05/2012 13:14

I'm sorry but that's so funny.

5 years is a long time, and even though there was no time limit, I would guess there is a 'common sense' issue here somewhere.

A wax would have cost much less 5 years ago than it does now, and I would guess they are probably worried about the amount of wax they would have to use if you've only been 3 times in 5 years Grin

1gglePiggle · 08/05/2012 13:14

No nothing on card, it was just written on an appointment card. I felt pressured into buying it at the time too, never again!

I think they can probably say you don't get the one free, but they really surely honour the two you've paid for.

I can see how this has happened, I only get waxed if I'm going on a beach/pool holiday or planning a dangerous liaison and these day isn't very often, I think you have a case here, if they haven't made it clear on your voucher they should cough up.

1gglePiggle · 08/05/2012 13:16

Yes true it does cost a lot more now but then they've gained interest on my money that I've not got anything back for

Granted, you bought this a long time ago but if you treat this sale in the same way as buying a gift voucher, buying up front for future use...consumer advice is that if there is a time period in which the voucher must be used it should state this on it.

If it was a place you had used before I also imagine they may have been aware you were not a frequent client and that you only booked pre holiday. They still gave it the hard sell and presumably did not verbally advise you of an expiry date and didn't write one on the card.

Go back and see the manager, explain you have checked your consumer rights, they failed to advise you of an expiry date, therefore they are obliged to honour it.

5 years - YABU

A deal is a deal. At least get what you've paid for, maybe they have changed ownership or something? Silly of them anyway as you will not use them again in the future and will no doubt tell lots of people locally about their attitude.

Mind you, maybe they didn't have a pair of gardening shears to prepare your bush for the job Grin

ErikNorseman · 08/05/2012 18:33

YABU. 5 years is far too long to expect them to honour the deal! If you only get waxed once every 1.5 years you shouldn't have bought 6 waxes in one go!

eurochick · 08/05/2012 20:02

They should honour it. If they wanted to impose a time limit on it, they should have made that clear when you purchased it.

Chalk it up to experience and save yourself some embarassment

tinkertitonk · 08/05/2012 20:15

No doubt you are entitled to a free wax in the eyes of god and the law. But do you really really want to be waxed by someone who is pissed off at you?

HecateTrivia · 08/05/2012 20:27

If the card does not have a time limit on it - there's no time limit on it! I'd go down there with the card and ask them to point out to you where on it it gives its expiry date.

HecateTrivia · 08/05/2012 20:28

good point, tinker, but how much more damage can be done? They're already pouring hot wax over your genitals and ripping your hair out by the roots.

tinkertitonk · 08/05/2012 22:34

Hecate, the way to find out how much more damage can be done is to send DH in for a back crack and sack job as the freebie. Rather, not your DH or mine, but the bastard that everyone is always being advised to leave.

IWantSummer · 08/05/2012 22:37

Five years - seriously!!
Makes me grrr AngryAngry when people do this at work. We have clear information on our web stating all vouchers are valid 12 mths.

Catsmamma · 08/05/2012 22:38

since you have fulfilled 50% of the conditions would they meet you half way do you think

no starfish, no undercarriage, front pant area only Maybe.

HecateTrivia · 09/05/2012 06:50

Grin ow. just...ow

1gglePiggle · 09/05/2012 23:24

I don't want to go back there now. I just want my money back that they have taken and not given me anything back in return. They never stated an expiry otherwise I would have used it up within that time.

Also they do waxes in an upstairs room opposite a sausage shop with no blinds down!
