To have more cake because I made it

Lighthearted by the way.

I made a cake and we all normally have equal shares. I thought I had had the same as everyone else, but apparently I had had more. My response was - well I made it so its only fair that I had more. So I am thinking of introducing a new house rule. Whoever makes the cake, gets to eat more. Since I am the only one who bakes cakes, thisi will work in my favour Grin. So AIBU?

Good way to get your dcs baking........!!!!!!!!!

NoobytheWaspSlayer · 07/05/2012 09:38

YANBU. In my house the rule is whoever cooks it gets the best bit. Other people in my house may not be actually be aware of this rule, however as chief chef I make sure it is well implemented.

Groovee · 07/05/2012 09:38

Excellent idea

oreocrumbs · 07/05/2012 09:39

I thought every one had this rule? Blush

Hmmm

Flimflammery · 07/05/2012 09:40

Abso-bloody-lutely! (not being U)

inmysparetime · 07/05/2012 09:43

In my house it's called "the baker's bonus" and includes rights on bowl licking and eating the crispy bits off the greaseproof paper.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 09:58

I love that you have a name for this inmysparetime

PurplePidjin · 07/05/2012 10:01

It's called Chef's Perks by my mum and nan, and I fully intend to carry on the tradition Grin

Goldrill · 07/05/2012 11:29

YANBU. Equally applied in our house is the rule that says if you/we/I bought it because I like it and you're not bothered you don't finish it off when there are alternatives. I would never finish a bakewell tart as that is DP's territory and would expect equal respect for anything with butter icing on.

McHappyPants2012 · 07/05/2012 12:06

what cake did you make.

yanbu, it is the reward fo spending the time making the cake as if you didn't may the cake nobody would have it

fussbucket · 07/05/2012 12:08

YANBU Long live Chef's Perks!

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 12:13

I made a lemon drizzle cake - scrumptious!

Tanith · 07/05/2012 13:42

I am so impressed you got a slice! Whenever I cook cakes or puddings, they vanish before I get to sample :(

The last lemon tart I did never even got chance to cool down :( :(

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 13:49

Tanith - You are not doing it right then. You need to cut part of the cake - even if still cooling - and put it aside as yours. And I love lemon tart. I would have been very Sad at that.

Or even better make another lemon tart and insist it all yours - given what happened last time.

MoonlightandRoses · 07/05/2012 16:01

YANBU - Did it have that nice lemon icing over the top too? I always pour that over when its still in the tin, and then keep the bits that have pooled at the sides as part of my portion too Smile.

Mind you, I don't get dibs on bowl scraping - the bowl seems to get mysteriously 'cleaned' while I am putting the cake into the oven Sad.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 07/05/2012 16:26

After reading this thread about 40 minutes ago I really fancied some cake, so have just made one. Mary Berry's lemon drizzle cake is rising in the oven as I type, except it's not Mary Berry's, it's mine. Although I suppose I'll have to let DS have a slice.

PurplePidjin · 07/05/2012 16:37

I always let dp have the scraping. I got 100% as an only child, he got none as one of three whose mum wanted to avoid arguments Grin

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 16:40

Moonlight - Yes it did

Softkitty - I am jealous, we have none left

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 18:30

Me too [shoves Eats further along the 'waiting to appreciate *DoingTheBest's baking' bench].

I have been given the recipe for a fabulous chocolate cake using almonds instead of flour, but keep eating too much of the individual ingredients each time I buy them, so haven't made it yet Blush.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 07/05/2012 20:29

Genuinely LOL at eating too much of the individual ingredients Grin

OP posts:
Meglet · 07/05/2012 20:33

yanbu.

I don't even let the dc's lick the bowl. When they are bigger and make cakes they get first dibs on it.

MoonlightandRoses · 07/05/2012 20:52

Well there's chocolate, and then there's the ground almonds/eggs/sugar combo, and, umm, well, er [trails off].
