To be pissed off with Next and Nationwide

I bought some curtains and cushions off the Next website last week, all fine. But then on Thursday I noticed that my balance was in a minus.

Went in to Nationwide and asked why, they said it would be a visa clearing, I said it wasn't as it is an account that I only use occasionally.

Went home and did a couple of sums and the missing money is exactly the amount that the things from Next cost.

It is now Tuesday and the money is still missing, don't know what to do? Confused

They have taken the money because you ordered something off their site. Do they have these account details/did you use the card for this account?

Sorry, didn''t explain properly. Next had already taken £179.99 out of my account and now there is another £179.99 missing.

Am I being silly, how did you pay for the order?

Do you have more than one account with nationwide?

LadySybilDeChocolate · 01/05/2012 18:44

So they have taken 2 payments. You need to contact NEXT and ask them to refund one of them. It's possible that one of these is in a holding account so isn't with NEXT at all, all they need to do is return it. Your bank should be able to tell you where it's gone though.

I paid with my Nationwide Visa debit card, they took £179.99 out for the goods that I received, but there is now another £179.99 missing out of the account and I haven't used the card for anything else.
Sorry if i'm not making much sense. I'm a tad angry.

Sorry x posts.
Nationwide say they don't know where the money is, as it's not showing on their system yet where it has gone, they say to give it a few more days??

It will be in a holding account then, somewhere in between the two. Have you used NEXT at some point and given them the old account details?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 01/05/2012 18:50

if they have taken it twice then ring them and tell them also point out that they need to refund asap or pay your bank charges. failing that... put it in dispute

PleaseChooseAnotherNN · 01/05/2012 18:53

Hi, this happened to me recently with Asda, contact next and ask for a refund, they will probably make out that it is the banks fault but the money will go back to your account. It took a week for mine to be refunded.

I used to work for Nationwide.

Sounds like an error.

When you pay for something, normally high value, they 'claim' that money immediately. When the transaction goes through 24hrs-ish later, formally like, the claim is matched and deleted so your a/c is even again.

Sometimes errors happen and a claim and a payment aren't matched. Should be easily sorted by telling Nationwide where to look.

Clearing is a term all Banks use - just means a transaction is processing. Sometimes shows as TP on a mini-statement.

Thanks everyone, I will pop in to my branch in the morning and see if it can be sorted out.

Best of luck. I hope you get it back quickly.

Thank you, I hope so too.
