To think today's Belfast telegraph has a vile article

Delisted from feminism.

Today the Belfast telegraph has an article asking how many lovers should a woman have had.

One of these women is a virgin, one has had 13 lOvers and one has only slept with her husband. Can you tell which is which.

The article also states that men feel comfortable boasting about ther number of cinquests whereas for women a high number of sexual partners runs them the risk of being branded easy.

What does anyone else think?

Excuse typos am on phone.

erm.....no linky?

hathorkicksass · 30/04/2012 12:50

I can't see it in the online version but it's in the "life" section on Pg 21

If I take a pic what's the best way to put it here?

Why would anyone put themselves forward for an article like that in the first place? Really don't need newspapers to keep banding this kind of rubbish about - that just makes it seem like it's a worthwhile topic for debate when it isn't. People (women AND men) have sex, some more than others, some with more people than others, not exactly newsworthy.

cocolepew · 30/04/2012 13:20

The media over here can be very moronic sometimes. I see Nolan is back on TV this week too

SardineQueen · 30/04/2012 13:27

They want readers to look at women and try to guess how many people they have had sex with?

That's simply bizarre.

MrsHelsBels74 · 30/04/2012 13:27

Do people really care how many people anyone else has slept with? As long as people are careful does it matter? I've always been honest about how many partners I've had but saying that my husband has never admitted it. I must admit I'm curious & wonder why he won't tell me but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.

hathorkicksass · 30/04/2012 13:28

Yip Sardine, that's exactly what they want them to do.

I can't read it, but I'd be interested to know the tone of it. Most of us are interested in other people's business, but if the article suggested that any of the women were wrong or worthy of disapproval for their choices, it would make me cross. If it's more, "we're all different and aren't people interesting," that would be ok, as the ladies involved have chosen to do it. I also wonder whether they've deliberately chosen people who fit or don't fit preconceptions - is the one with the visible tattoos the one with a number of previous partners (as my Grandma would have instantly assumed), or is it the demure-looking one in the floral dress. Or, of course, the other one.

JosieZ · 30/04/2012 15:00

Personally I wouldn't have fancied having loads of sexual partners ie 100s over a few years as it would make my skin creep to be that initimate with what are probably virtual strangers (though some people can maybe form close relationships quickly) but other that that couldn't give a monkeys what anyone does.

But this article might be of interest to young teenagers (but they don't read papers anyway). Stupid, pointless article. Desperate journalism?

oopsi · 30/04/2012 15:15

So which is which?
My guess is teh pretty one is a virgin, the one in the middle just her hubby, the fat one with glasses 13??

hathorkicksass · 30/04/2012 15:24

One on left in purple scarf - works for Christian organisation, only with hubby

One in middle - virgin

One with glasses - 13 and bisexual.

My DH won't tell me how many either. He has hinted that it is because he thinks I will think it is too many but I think it is because he thinks it is actually too few because he is a total nerd.

KRITIQ · 30/04/2012 17:53

It's a stupid headline and stupid way to "pitch" the article. If they wanted to do a feature on women's attitudes to sex and sexual partners, that's not an issue. I agree that they wouldn't spin an article about men's attitudes to sex and sexul partners with a "guess the virgin" style quiz.

I suspect the purpose of the article isn't really to explore say changing attitudes to sex and relationships, but as a way of titillating the readership and getting the good folk of Norn Iron tutting and huffing about immoral ladeez. Ho Hum.

hathorkicksass · 30/04/2012 17:56

Well, that was the angle I was going to take - when are you doing your "guess the virgin" feature for blokes

I haven't read it, but am a bit Hmm about the whole thing. Surely to goodness there are other things happening in NI which are actually news stories.

Not good from a newspaper which is usually top notch.

IAmBooyhoo · 30/04/2012 18:42

why have they only used women? did they explain?

IAmBooyhoo · 30/04/2012 18:43

agree Kritiq

rhondajean · 30/04/2012 19:02

Is the 13 supposed to be a lot, I would assume a lot of women now exceed that.

TheCraicDealer · 30/04/2012 19:21

It's lazy journalism, the sort of filler story they trot out for the "lifestyle" pages when there's nothing topical to report. To be fair to the telly, I've seen articles identical to this in other women's mags with both men and women taking part. So although it's a shit idea it's not one of their own!
