Can anyone help out with this science question as I am not sure and google was unhelpful!

I was thinking along the lines of lettuce: leaves, cress: leaves and cabbage. Can't think of anything else sk please help! I know it's something I should know but not studied this for years!

Question is:
Make a list of plants That provide food for humans as a result of photosynthesis. Say why part of the plant is eaten e.g. Root, leaf, seed

Thanks for any help :)

Don't all plants photosynthesise? I mean - cherry trees, you eat the fruit, potatoes, you eat the roots etc.

FallenCaryatid · 29/04/2012 17:49

Just miss off fungi and you'll be fine.
Reasons for eating, seeds are protein-rich, potatoes are starch and carbohydrate, spinach is iron, citrus fruits are Vitamin C...that sort of thing?

leaves: lettuce, cabbage, spinach
stalks: celery, rhubarb
flowers:broccoli, cauliflower
roots, carrot, parsnip, beetoot, radish
tubers: potato,
fruit: tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, apples etc
seeds: pumpkin, sunflower, poppy
roots and tubors store the sugar made during photosynthasis
stems/stalks transport water to leaves, sugar from leaves and support leaves so that they catch the most light
leaves and green stems photosynthasise making sugars

Did you not like your answers in Chat OP?? Grin

Doesn't seem difficult at all...

Any green plants photosynthesise - they all have chlorophyll which is needed for photosynthesis. So pick anything with green bits and that will be fine! :-)
