to ask if this is enough

It's my dd's birthday party today. She invited 25 and only 8 have replyed so I'm unsure how much food to do.

So far I have got jam, ham, cheese sandwiches, 50 chicken dippers, 40 cocktail sausages, large pizza, pineapple, cucumber, pickled onions, grapes, biscuits and popcorn.

Is this enough do you think? The kids are 7/8 year olds and its from 1-3

I would buy more chicken dippers, another couple of pizzas and keep them in the freezer.. if more people do turn up, you can cook them in minutes.

stargazer83 · 29/04/2012 11:17

It's in a hall with no kitchen facility's which is why I'm worrying :)

No cakes and sausage rolls? Shock

It sounds fine to me. Most kids just snack at parties...they tend not to go there to actually eat.

In fact, I've never known a party that hasn't had food left over no matter how small the buffet was.

hatesponge · 29/04/2012 11:18

I'd get some crisps or something on standby, they're always popular at parties we've had.

Also make sure you have some extra bread so can knock up more sandwiches if the food goes down quickly (and if you don't need to, just freeze the loaf for another time)

I sympathise with lack of reply thing, DS invited 40 to his party, 25 turned up of whom only 15 had replied and said they were coming, 5 of those on the morning of the party!

Hope your DD has a great time :)

MOSagain · 29/04/2012 11:18

No idea I'm afraid but just had to say how bloody rude for so many not to reply. Very Angry for you.
hope the party goes well and your DD has a lovely day x

RuleBritannia · 29/04/2012 11:19

Yes, I second what squeaky toy said.

More bad manners from invitees shown here. I don't care what the weather is like, they can eat in the garden so the birds can clear up after them.

CobOnTheCorn · 29/04/2012 11:21

So, worst case scenario 25 will turn up which will allow them 2 chicken dippers, 1 sausage, 1 sandwich and some veg/fruit each. Oh and pizza

I think that is fine but it is natural for the host to worry whether there is enough. How about a couple of bags of crisps or some cherry tomatoes/olives if you're really concerned.

hatesponge · 29/04/2012 11:23

One thing I would say is allow lots of water/juice, all the running around and party excitement seems to always make children exceptionally thirsty!

kittyandthefontanelles · 29/04/2012 11:23

That's plenty for me but what are the kids having? Snarf

Floggingmolly · 29/04/2012 11:29

Yes, I imagine a lot more than 8 will show up. (It's entirely possible you could have more than 25, if uninvited siblings arrive too, which isn't unheard of).
There is apparently no established etiquette regarding replying to party invitations - be prepared for anything!

stargazer83 · 29/04/2012 12:10

Lol thanks all. I will take some crisps some more bread to knock up some more sandwiches if needed

olibeansmummy · 29/04/2012 12:26

I'd get more pizza, it's always the first to go. Let us know how many actually turn up!

stargazer83 · 29/04/2012 21:18

I did an extra pizza in the end but I needn't have bothered. 18 kids turned up in the end

thats a nice number, hope DD had a nice time. Still think others bloody rude!

GateGipsy · 30/04/2012 07:51

argh it is so frustrating. I had also counted on about half of them not turning up even when they had replied as that's what's happened in previous years (son's seven). This year everyone came bar two children, and they just hoovered up the food! Next year undoubtedly I'll do way more food and find that no one turns up ...

takingiteasy · 30/04/2012 09:01

It makes my blood boil that people are so bloody rude and don't reply to invites. I had 3 turn up at DS's party that hadn't been in touch to say and 4 on the morning text to say they were coming. Obviously nothing better came up!
