...instead of knocking my door is incredibly rude.

Especially if you are a salesman !!

Lol I thought it was a Carry On Film innuendo Grin

more · 24/04/2012 16:09

That's how my cat tells me he wants in though. He can't reach the bell Grin.

Sirzy · 24/04/2012 16:11

Why? It makes a louder noise than banging on the door so is harder to ignore less likely to be missed. Can't say it has ever bothered me!

BonkeyMollocks · 24/04/2012 16:11

Grin @worra

I too thought this was code for something.

Our minds are clearly keeping one another company in the gutter, Worra.

Pandemoniaa · 24/04/2012 16:12

Well it's not the greatest crime of the century and tbh, I hadn't realised that flapping letterboxes was that rude a thing to do. But it is irritating when there's a more effective way of announcing your presence.

This is something I'm currently being unreasonable about since for the second morning in succession, a bloke from the water company seemed surprised that a gentle knock on the glass in the front door was a less than efficient method of getting attention from anyone other than the dog. Unlike the bell which is clearly visible from where he was standing.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/04/2012 16:14

Another thing to add to my 'I really am a very laid back, tolerant person because these things have absolutely no effect on my mood' list.

It's a short list, but every new entry makes me feel a little more normal.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 24/04/2012 16:15

At risk of perpetuating the Carry On theme, why 'especially if you are a salesman !!'? Do you prefer them to use the tradesmen's entrance?

BonkeyMollocks · 24/04/2012 16:15

But its such a horrible noise!!

OP posts:
ABatInBunkFive · 24/04/2012 16:16

erm, get a doorbell?

Pandemoniaa · 24/04/2012 16:17

Grin @ tradesmen's entrance

Ask him to choose the back passage if he calls round on a Friday.

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2012 16:17

Yep! Grin

OP, you do realise if you don't answer the front door, you may find the Salesman comes up your back passage.....

WorraLiberty · 24/04/2012 16:18

Snap Pandemoniaa Grin

HeadfirstForHalos · 24/04/2012 16:20

I'm in the gutter too Grin

I don't mind having my letterbox flapped!

BonkeyMollocks · 24/04/2012 16:20

I have a doorbell.

BonkeyMollocks · 24/04/2012 16:21

I think i would quite enjoy a salesman to come in my back entrance. Wink

OP posts:
youarekidding · 24/04/2012 16:26

I'd prefer someone to ring my bell instead of flapping my letterbox any day. Wink

Pushing the right button can prove a problem at time though - I agree.

I live in a flat so people have to buzz and ask permission to enter. If they just role up to the floor door I don't open up.

lowers self for thread

youarekidding · 24/04/2012 16:27

*front door!

helpyourself · 24/04/2012 16:32

Shatners- It's a short list, but every new entry makes me feel a little more normal. GrinGrinGrin

BonkeyMollocks · 24/04/2012 16:41

I live in flats too they shouldn't be able to get in the main front door!!

I have a knocker but they won't bang it Grin

They tap the glass instead

BBQJuly · 24/04/2012 17:08

YANBU. Doorbell even better than knocking as it's louder and I might actually hear it - but they ignore the doorbell half the time Confused

LentillyFart · 24/04/2012 17:11
ChitChatFlyingby · 24/04/2012 17:15

Can they hear the doorbell ringing? (Or even see it easily?) If so, then YANBU, but if they can't then YABU because I would prefer to flap the letterbox rather than knock on the door - I always end up with sore knuckles knocking on the door.

LineRunner · 24/04/2012 17:15

Rattling the letterbox is family and friends only up here. You knock the door if you're the postman. The bell is for formal callers i.e. bloody salesmen.
