To expect soft fruit to rot!

I found some blackberries from Waitrose lurking in the back of the fridge, they had a Sell By date of 5th April - that's almost 3 weeks ago and they showed no signs of rotting, not even a little mould. Shock

They must have benefited from a very generous coating of fungicide...Hmm

Indeed.

We've had peeled bananas that don't turn brown after a day. When I was small, they'd go a bit funny after an hour (although it was rare that they'd be lying around for that long).

I'm sure Them being in the fridge has something to do with them not going bad, as I've had this a few times.

Everything else in the fridge seems to rot quick enough. Confused

They've probably been irradiated Sad

BettyBathroom · 23/04/2012 22:14

Apparently not!

Irradiation

Although irradiation is permitted in the UK for specific types of foods such as vegetables, fruit, fish and poultry, Waitrose policy does not permit its use in any Waitrose branded products or ingredients used in Waitrose branded products.
