To NOT report the squatters?

The house at the back of us is owned by the council and has been empty for the past year.

About 2 months ago we began so see signs of life but it eventually became apparent that the people there were squatting. Most of our neighbours are aware of them but nobody seems particularly concerned.

My parents are adamant that we should report them. I'm adamant that I shouldn't.

Aibu? Naive maybe?

I'd leave them to it.

If the council have had a house empty for 12 months then shame on them, because there are people waiting in b&bs and hostels who need a home but if it is now providing someone with a roof over their heads, and they aren't causing any damage or upset to the neighbours, then let them have it.

If the council get their act together, then they'll take it off them.

Better someone has a roof over their heads than nobody.
