part time work???

welliebobs · 22/04/2012 10:05

I work 25 hours a week, which I consider to be part time (the full time staff work 40 hours)

However several times recently when I have been filling out forms etc it states anything under 16 hours is part time work!

AIBU to think I only work part time?

What would you consider full and part time hours?

I work 16 hours sometimes a few more with overtime, I would consider 37+ hours to be full time.

PinkChampagneandStrawberries · 22/04/2012 10:09

I work 25 hours and I consider it part time

Isityouorme · 22/04/2012 10:10

Anything outside the 35/40 ours per week is part time. Part time IMO is 16 or 25 hours per week, working 3 or 4 days a week, or doing 9-2 5 days a week. however, for government purposes eg enemies I think thy do use 16 hours as a basis. Dont now why!

startail · 22/04/2012 10:19

16 hours is a magic number for some benefits I believe.

Caused trouble for a DF trying to ease herself back into work after having server depression.
I think she had to go from 2-4 days and get a pay rise not to end up being worse off, it was very stupid.

cantspel · 22/04/2012 10:21

It used to be 16 hours for working tax credits but now it is 24 hours hence why people are losing their wftc as they dont now do enough hours to qualify

welliebobs · 22/04/2012 10:21

Thanks for replies. Thought I was going bonkers as always say I work part time 25 hours. So was really surprised to see anything over 16 hours were classed as full time.
I consider anything over 35 full time myself

Just to state these forms where nothing to do with claiming benefits, one was for house insurance and the other was a survey about recycling and when I said I worked part time 25 hours the man said you mean full time! I was a bit Shock

Tw1gl3t: I hope that was meant for a different thread!

For official purposes less than 16 hours is classed as part time but for practical purposes it's less than 35 hours a week.
I would consider 25 hours per week to be part time too.

samandi · 22/04/2012 11:19

I'd say 35 or more hours is full time.

Groovee · 22/04/2012 11:44

Full time in my job is 36 hours so anything under that to me would be part time

featherbag · 22/04/2012 12:28

Isityouorme, I 'only' work 3 days a week, but consider myself FT as I do 13 hour shifts on those 3 days, working 37.5 payable hours! I would say 35hrs+ is FT, anything less is PT.

AnnoyingOrange · 22/04/2012 13:12

I used to do 4 days a week ie 30 hours and I considered that part-time (as did my employer Smile )

Tw1gl3t · 22/04/2012 16:35

Gawd.Blush

BackforGood · 22/04/2012 16:41

When I was teaching, I used to confuse people filling in forms, as I would say I worked PT - true, I got paid 0.6 of a salary for it - but then when they asked me how many hours a week I worked and I'd say about 36, they wouldn't let me put that down as PT.
SO I guess it depends what your 'industry standard' is. Smile

TidyDancer · 22/04/2012 16:44

Anything below 35 hours would be part time I think. Although saying that, my sister averages 33 hours because of the way her shifts fall, and I would consider her to be full time.

25 hours definitely part time though.

Glittertwins · 22/04/2012 17:28

I do 28 hrs per week and am counted as a full time head count. I view myself as part time.

Thetokengirl · 22/04/2012 17:31

I used to work "less than full time" - that was the official title for it.
I worked (officially) 39 hours a week!
As Backforgood said, it depends where you work.

Gef · 22/04/2012 17:31

I do 34. what am I ?

gobbledegook1 · 22/04/2012 19:51

The job centre considers anything over 16 hours to be full time whereas most employers consider full time to be around 40 hours a week. Thus anything in-between isn't quite full time but isn't quite part time either. Its silly.

16 hours is the amount of hours a single person has to work to qualify for WTC. 24 hours if your a couple.

Scholes34 · 22/04/2012 21:26

I work 30 hours a week. I sometimes get cheeky comments when I "leave early" - 3.00 pm, to which I reply "Yes, I'm a part-time worker, and I get a part-time salary too".

Glittertwins · 23/04/2012 11:20

Yes, just last week, I reminded someone that I might have one day a week "off" but I also don't get paid for it either.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 23/04/2012 11:46

Yes I would say you are part time. I work 33 hours a week and I am still considered part time here!
