My kids are really, really annoying me

My DH has been away on a work trip since tues leaving me with ds (4) and dd (21m) home alone til tomorrow morning. The pair of them have behaved hideously, screaming at me, refusing to do anything I ask, being rude and unresponsive (the older one) and downright cross and demanding (the younger one). They're normally beautifully behaved and loving kids. I'm not enjoying this, can not wait for DH to get back and would be happy not to see them for a whole week. Is this unreasonable of me?

No it is not unreasonable of you! My son who is 2 has been horrible today. Shouting, screaming and crying. He's thrown his food and toys. He has slapped and punched me and just been absolutely horrible. His dad is picking him up soon and I really can't wait

YANBU. DH and I were looking to sell our eldest two but Ebay have stupid rules about not being able to sell people.

Seriously though, when DH is away and the DC's play up I get out of the house - anywhere. I have been known to throw everyone's shoes on, pick up my keys and phone and just walk out. Just being outside seems to calm everyone down. It might not last, but at least it gives us a few better minutes.

We've had a day like this, its wearing isnt it. Cant wait til bedtime for everyone today.

Bohica · 14/04/2012 17:10

Sounds like everyone is missing Daddy!!

MMy 3 have been content for the afternoon due to resucing an injured field mouse.
It is dead currently sleeping in a hamster cage they have borrowed from a neighbour.

Mine normally spending their afternoons arguing so it has been a pleasant change Grin

YANBU at all - My DS2 is 3 and has not shut up all day and I am so frustrated I could cry (tbf I am 27 wks PG and hormonal so probably more to do with that).

Poor DP has been on a train since 8.20 this morn and will have this child dumped on him as soon as he walks through the door so I can escape before my head explodes. Make sure you do the same, I'd bet that a nice quiet bath and a glass bottle of wine will make you feel tons better.

Mrsjay · 14/04/2012 17:14

toddlers can be little monsters and they feed of how we are feeling so YANBU at all , sometimes change in routine (dad being away) can upset them and that usually comes out as being just PITA , i would agree go out for a few hours tomorrow to let them burn off some steam , and it isnt that long till bedtime is it ,

DontCallMeMummyPig · 14/04/2012 20:00

Thank you so much all of you. That's made me feel so much better. They're in bed now and I'm drinking wine. Never been so glad a day is over. And looking forward to making DH pay over the next week. Not one nappy am I changing!! Wink

:o at Bohica!!!

Bohica · 14/04/2012 22:57

We buried it in the garden, they truly believed it was sleeping.

I had to explain to a 4y old that you sleep with your eyes shut and die with them open. She looked in the cage and said "Monty is dead" and burst into tears which then made the 10y old & 2 x 7y olds burst into tears!!

We gave Monty a respectable funeral although I couldn't find a spade so we dug the hole with a wall paper scraper and made a wooden cross out of lollie sticks.

RIP Monty the field mouse Sad

peeriebear · 14/04/2012 22:59

Mine are 10 and 5 and I have had some choice moments this holiday! Including one where I lost all reason and perspective and smashed a plate on the kitchen floor Blush No children were in the room thankfully! Pregnancy hormones notwithstanding, they have really pushed my buttons this hols.

Mrsjay · 14/04/2012 22:59

YANBU. After 2 weeks of listening to my 6 (going on 13) year old whinge and moan I rang up my mum and begged her to take him for a sleep over so I could have 18 hours peace!

JingleMum · 14/04/2012 23:10

i've only got one "little angel" Hmm and i have these days fairly often!

some days are amazing, others are testing, and the some are horrendous. it's part and parcel of being a parent to small kids, but just remember that one day they will leave home and we can drink wine all the time, have lovely long lie ins and walk around naked Grin

Bohica · 14/04/2012 23:10
