Trivial I know but annoying. Dh asked me if it was ok to give dd out of date Jaffa cakes. I said no.
Came downstairs this am only to find jaffa cakes still in cupboard.
Can't understand why he didn't bin them.

Magneto · 11/04/2012 16:42

Maybe he will eat them?

RattyPatty · 11/04/2012 16:43

Almost as irriating as putting the milk back in the fridge with about 2mls left in it.

Leave him. Grin

FuckedOfftotheFarSideofFuck · 11/04/2012 16:44

I think YABU to not allow the out of date Jaffa Cakes!

But yes, annoying that once you'd ruled them out as foodstuff, he didn't bin them. Unless, as Magneto suggested, he was going to eat them I could murder a box of Jaffa Cakes right now, even out of date ones

CroissantNeuf · 11/04/2012 16:45

Surely he'll eat them. I know my DP would.

I mean, I don't think out of date Jafa Cakes would kill a grown man. Its not as though its was sour, lumpy milk or green furry bread.

FredFredGeorge · 11/04/2012 16:46

Jaffa cakes don't go out of date, they only have best before's on them, so he presumably thought you were saying no because you wanted to save them for yourself and it was nothing to do with the date.

So YABU. both in your suggestion of wasting food, and in expecting DH to waste food.

habbibu · 11/04/2012 16:46

Just because they're not ok for dd, they might be fine for others. Don't think it's that unreasonable, surely?

happyfeet11 · 11/04/2012 16:48

Oops. maybe I should retrieve them. Never occurred to me anyone else would ewant to eat them.

OP posts:
happyfeet11 · 11/04/2012 16:49

I would agree with that but its not the 1st time this has happened. Last time it was with something that had a use by.

OP posts:
ChitChatFlyingby · 11/04/2012 16:49

But surely they're 'best before' and not 'use by'?! Big difference between the two.

Sparklingbrook · 11/04/2012 16:50

How out of date?

RoxyRobin · 11/04/2012 16:54

When I was a child there was no 'best before' or 'use by'. You were supposed to use your own skill and judgement, ie we ate everything that wasn't crawling along the worktop to climb into the bin.

AnEcumenicalMatter · 11/04/2012 16:54

You had Jaffa cakes in the cupboard long enough to go out of date?

oldraver · 11/04/2012 16:55

You had out of date Jaffa Cakes ? How does that happen ?

BusinessTrills · 11/04/2012 16:56

YABU

You said they were not to be fed to your DD (unreasonably, IMO)

That doesn't mean he (a sensible person who doesn't like waste) isn't allowed to eat them himself.

OldGreyWiffleTest · 11/04/2012 16:56

I agree with Roxy - if it isn't stale, crawling or growing green stuff it gets used in this house.

HalfPastWine · 11/04/2012 17:02

Grin @ Roxy we ate everything that wasn't crawling along the worktop to climb into the bin.

HipHopOpotomus · 11/04/2012 17:12

My lovely DP has been at home with the DC's today (CM holiday).
I will get in from work, go to kitchen at put many items of rubbish that he has left on the bench, into the bin - the bin I will be standing next to. There will be wrappers, and various items of packaging etc - all very clearly rubbish and not in the bin.
He leaves rubbish around the place everywhere - PUT IT IN THE FUCKING BIN!!!!!

and Smile

Oh & he is in denial that he does this Confused

happyfeet11 · 11/04/2012 17:41

hiphop my dh is the same. I came down this am to find 4 crisp packets on the coffee table in the lounge. It's just so annoying.
About 2 months out of date. Probably would be safe but I can't imagine they would taste nice.

OP posts:
LoopyLoeufdePaques · 11/04/2012 17:47

You would bin out of date crisps?

Tee2072 · 11/04/2012 17:49

Out of date Jaffa Cakes?!?

I'd bet you have left over wine to use with that ice cube tip as well...

Chilenachica · 11/04/2012 17:54

He didn't bin them because he is a man and the food in question is Jaffa Cakes.
There's no great mystery.

GiserableMitt · 11/04/2012 18:11

How the bloody hell does anyone keep Jaffa Cakes long enough to worry about them being out of date?

dealer · 11/04/2012 18:15

Why does your husband need permission on what he's allowed to feed your daughter?

SarkyWench · 11/04/2012 18:19

You send them (and the crisps) to me.

Thanks :)

happyfeet11 · 11/04/2012 18:21

The crisps were empty packets. I agree he doesn't need to ask permission.
