to hate air freshners?

I really detest going into a room and having those sensor airfreshners going off. It's like they are saying 'you stink'.
My inlaws have them practically in every room (I could probably accept it in the toilet but wouldn't opening the window have a similar effect and be cheaper?) and they go off contantly.
When I was pregnant with ds I used to hold my breath when one went off as I didn't want to be inhaling chemicals. Funnily enough my fil has a terribly bad chest (but refuses to see a doc) and I just wonder if they are adding to the problem.

Yadnbu.

Devora · 10/04/2012 22:25

They are the devil's spit. I hate the smell, they hurt my nose and they seem to aggravate my asthma.

fortifiedwithtea · 10/04/2012 22:29

I totally agree. If you've got a stink open the window.

MousyMouse · 10/04/2012 22:31

yanbu
hate the things.
not good for asthmatics at all.
and artifical flower smell + smelly toilet smell = Envy

jesuswhatnext · 10/04/2012 22:32

hate them! if your house smells open the bloody window! and as for those tree things hanging on rearview mirrors! ugh, sick making!

exoticfruits · 10/04/2012 22:33

YANBU-I hate them.

sweetkitty · 10/04/2012 22:34

YANBU hate them too.

I bought one of those tree ones when I left my car door open and some bastard cat peed in it (boak) though new car smell would be the least offensive, oh no it was worse than the cat pee.

Had to bicarb the carpets but the car pee is gone Grin

LineRunner · 10/04/2012 22:35

They are vile and car ones are viler.

I always suspect they are masking the smell of sperm, but inadequately.

PoppadumPreach · 10/04/2012 22:38

If you boil cloves and cinnamon on your hob it makes the house smell lovely!

That is the only air freshener I'd ever use.

Unequivocal YANBU!

AnnieLobeseder · 10/04/2012 22:38

YANBU! They smell awful and cause no end of respiratory problems.

When we moved into our house years ago we kept getting wafts of this awful stink at random intervals, and finally found one of those air fresheners with a set time to go off behind the curtain. It got binned very quickly!

And don't even get me started on the ones that look like pebbles etc etc.

Just open a window!!! Bring in some lavender or a nice bunch of real flowers.

Who actually likes that artificial crap? Does anyone actually, really, genuinely like them, or do they just buy them because they decide it's what expected of the good housekeeper from the adverts and they don't want to Be Judged for Having A Less Than Fresh House?

HellonHeels · 10/04/2012 22:41

Ooo I loathe them! All that chemical crap being exuded. I've read that they are associated with increased likelihood of ear and respiratory infections.

dearprudence · 10/04/2012 22:42

Aaargh! Glade Plug-Ins!! YANBU, they are hideous.

Rhubarbgarden · 10/04/2012 22:45

YANBU. I got my car valeted today and when I collected it they'd put a Magic Tree in it. They'd had the heating on full blast to dry out the carpet, so the toilet cleaner stench was totally overpowering. Vom. Plucked the offending thing out and handed it right back to them.

curiositykitten · 10/04/2012 22:47

I sometimes have one in my downstairs loo. It doesn't have a window. It was needed to get rid of the smell of old man piss when I first moved in.

Tiddlyompompom · 10/04/2012 22:51

I loathe them too, but for once really wish I had one - DH has some awful d&v bug and the whole house has a parading stink of poo, and that's WITH the windows open. Confused

Plug Ins are a terrible fire risk, they're actually hazardous!

Tiddlyompompom · 10/04/2012 22:51

Pervading, not parading, obvs..... Blush
