to be disappointed with Comet's "Extra Care" "service"?

I bought a new Hoover washer-dryer in January from Comet. It started leaking on Sunday. That is bad enough -- a three month old appliance not working, with washing from a 6 month old, two adults and two older children piling up by the day.

I also paid £279 for the extra warranty not something I usually do, but thought it would be worth it for a washer/dryer. The booklet says "Quick call outs One of our specialist engineers will visit you quickly at a time that suits you. (Normally within 2 working days)."

I call the service line yesterday and they provide me with an appointment -- Tuesday of next week. I pointed out this wasn't even close to two working days (accepting that it won't always be two working days, but looking for some sort of reasonable approximation). After complaining I spoke to three different people, none of whom could help. i was promised a further call back this morning from the manager of the last person I spoke to, but no-one called me today (why am I not entirely surprised?)!

AIBU to think this is not a great deal?

Comet are shit. They sold me a TV that didn't work a few years ago. After 19 visits by 19 different engineers - during which time I had to renew my TV licence for a telly that did nothing but shit snow - I wrote to Head Office demanding a replacement. Had contacted Consumer Direct who gave me loads of advice about what I was entitled to under the White Goods Act. Head Office ignored the letter so I called them, and they gave me some load of old fanny about how I wasn't entitled to a replacement because they believed they could fix it. It wasn't until I quoted all the stuff Consumer Direct had told me that they got their arses into gear and finally said I could go to the store and get a different TV.

That took NINE MONTHS.

They are shocking. Trading Standards invstigated them over issues like this and found them to be in breach of contract with their customers because they sell faulty crap then don't replace them as they should. Google it, there's loads of stuff about them.

Never, ever shop there.

We got a new washing machine through comet and it was using money from the family fund as DS is disabled. We had to also purchase a 5year car plan.

That was 18months ago. Well washing machine broke last week. Wouldn't drain and pump has given up working. Rang them last Wednesday to be told the earliest someone can get to me is Friday, a whole 9 days later!!!!!! Explained I have a disabled DS and he wets the bed etc. was told that's not their problem they have no engineers in my area till Friday. And it's an 8am till 6pm visit!!!!!!!!!!!

They're shit. I rung about my netbook and was told "sorry i can't help try taking it to a store they'll know what to do"

Gee thanks.

I wouldn't touch Comet with a bargepole.
They delivered a washing machine that was damaged.
Then a scratched tumble drier.A replacement tumble drier that didn't work. And another replacement that I tried when the delivery drivers were there (DH and I and the 2 drivers tried. Nil).

They took it away and phoned Comet to say I wasn't accepting it. I had to go to the store in person to cancel the order.
Then they got arsey -not entitled to a refund because I'd cancelled before they tried to repair it.

I didn't have much faith in them. I refused to leave the store (and held up the queue) until they refunded my money.

Arses.

My brother has had a nightmare experience with comet, he bought a washing machine at the end of Nov, broke down within 2 weeks, had it fixed, broke down again within days....this went on for 4 months. With 3 young children & a couple of stomach bugs...no joke. After several telephone calls & visits from repair men they were told they could have a replacement, they refused & demanded a refund, comet were very reluctant to refund. They've since bought a new machine from John Lewis.

Sorry Hoover washer/dryers are a bloody nightmare. I bought one in 2007 & 13 months later the damn thing caught fire. Angry.

Although my insurance has paid for itself, because my DD has broken the screen on her laptop twice, the repair has twice taken nearly two months, so i haven't bothered this time round, i'll just be careful.
