AIBU? Long back story so I'll try and keep to the point. Been divorced 7 years and I got custody of MIL in the spilt. Get on really well with her but recently DD was telling me about MIL's story about me being a pain when I was a vegetarian for 5 years (this was 15 years ago) as I insisted that my roast potatoes were cooked in a separate oven to any meat. That simply didn't happen! I later mentioned it to DS and he said 'yeah Dad told me that too!' I'm really hurt they have re-written history. I suspect I wanted potatoes cooked separately to the meat (not same pan). This is no biggy right? I'm over reacting aren't I?

I think you need to move on from the potatoes Wink

TuftyFinch · 09/04/2012 23:23

You got custody of your MIL? How?

WorraLiberty · 09/04/2012 23:23

Yeah you're over reacting but it is funny how people can re-write these things Blush

Perhaps they had to go in a separate oven because all the shelves were full?

TuftyFinch · 09/04/2012 23:26

So your MIL has 2 ovens? Is one a pretend one?

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 09/04/2012 23:26

Sorry nothing relevant to say but I got custody of my mil too just back from a week at hers where we had a fab time.
Tufty trust me it's easy.

lolajane2009 · 09/04/2012 23:28

i'm just wondering if mil was like a table and chairs and you haggled over her

doctordwt · 09/04/2012 23:29

Threaten MIL with moving to 50/50 custody if she doesn't fess up to making a mash-up of this whole thing.

TuftyFinch · 09/04/2012 23:29

But ...

WorraLiberty · 09/04/2012 23:30

Lot's of cookers have two ovens

WorraLiberty · 09/04/2012 23:31

However, 'lots' doesn't always have an apostrophe Blush

Salmotrutta · 09/04/2012 23:35

Actually your MIL told me this story too OP.

It was deffo a separate oven you insisted on ...

I think she mentioned the word "precious" ... but I can't be sure.

Salmotrutta · 09/04/2012 23:36

She also mentioned something about your net curtains being dingy.

WorraLiberty · 09/04/2012 23:36

And Maris Pipers

They just had to be Maris Fucking Pipers didn't they OP??

dolallylass · 09/04/2012 23:37

He wouldn't make an effort for her to see the DC's whereas I thought it was important for them to keep things the same so after a year I stepped in and invited her here and she's been coming ever since, she also comes to as many clubs, assemblies etc as poss which XH, DM, DF don't so she's fine by me Smile.

She has four ovens, in fact she has two kitchens one is in the annex which is bigger than my house!

OP posts:
dolallylass · 09/04/2012 23:41

Oh precious would have been a nice version what she actually said was that I was a real pain! Nice! DD is 10 and sounding me out about being veggy which is why it was mentioned.

OP posts:
Salmotrutta · 09/04/2012 23:42

You know what OP - you sound like a DIL I'd like!

Fillybuster · 09/04/2012 23:43

She sounds like the sort of MIL you want to retain, regardless of XDH.

On which basis, I would make a point of not ever ever ever mentioning the potatoes.

And if the DCs ever do so in front of you and her at the same time, just laugh it off.....

Seriously, some things are worth a bit of re-written storytelling :)

Salmotrutta · 09/04/2012 23:44

Grin - hey, don't sweat the small stuff!
She was likely being jocular.

dolallylass · 09/04/2012 23:56

I thank you all! Feel much better Grin. Had a double bacon cheese burger for tea so not going to be an issue in the future!

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 10/04/2012 00:15

I am sure that if my DH and I ever split I would get the MIL too. She has told me so. Grin
