Dog milk?

Terriblyconcerned · 09/04/2012 00:56

My dsis is pregnant with her first child. We spoke tonight and she told me that she has heard that dog milk is the next best thing to breast feeding. As she has four dogs, she has frozen batches of their milk in case she has a problem breast feeding. Am I bring unreasonable to say that I don't think this is a great idea?

my cousin swears by fermented badger milk.

It makes a wonderful chutter

GrahamTribe · 09/04/2012 08:21

Terriblyconcerned, my advice would be to make three appointments. One with the vet, to get the bitches spayed, one with the environmental health department to address the puppy farming and one with the local health team to address your sisters, um, issues.

I look forward to any second contribution to MN's forum which you might have to make.

lolajane2009 · 09/04/2012 08:41

i wouldnt think so, probably monkey would be closer but i'd use ff rather than dogs milk.

catgirl1976 · 09/04/2012 09:05

Mmmm hmm

How do you milk a dog? Is it like how you milk a cat?

Grin @ monkey milk

StringOrNothing · 09/04/2012 09:11

"Nothing wrong with dog milk; full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other kind of milk does dog milk. Because no bugger will drink it.
And the other advantage is that when it goes off, it still tastes exactly the same."
Holly, Red Dwarf

I thought it was camel milk that was meant to be nutritionally fabulous? Does your sister have camels?

QuickQuickSloe · 09/04/2012 09:19

I gave my baby dogs milk. He has strong teeth, bright eyes, a glossy coat and is full of vitality.

SydSaid · 09/04/2012 09:35

I think I see where your sister is going wrong.

Instead of trying to give her child a wet nose, maybe she should consider a wet nurse?

ripsishere · 09/04/2012 10:39

Camels milk is nasty stuff. I once bought some by mistake when we lived in ME. Had I known of its nurtitional benefits, DD would have been force fed some.
OP, I think the qualitiy and nurtitional value of the milk varies from breed to breed. I understand that the smaller breeds are not as good as strong pitbull/akira types.
What breeds does your make believe fire starting swearing sister have?

DinahMoHum · 09/04/2012 10:41

mmm monkey milk

isnt that a toots and the maytals song

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 09/04/2012 10:43

Gives 'em wind though, dog milk does.

BoneyBackJefferson · 09/04/2012 10:57

Holly: We're a bit short on a few supplies.
Lister: Like what?
Holly: Cow's milk. Ran out of that yonks ago. Fresh and dehydrated.
Lister: What kind of milk are we using now?
Holly: Emergency back-up supply. We're on the dog's milk.
Lister: Dog's milk?
Holly: Nothing wrong with dog's milk. Full of goodness, full of vitamins, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other type of milk, dog's milk.
Lister: Why?
Holly: No bugger'll drink it. And the advantage of dog's milk is that when it goes off it tastes exactly the same as when it's fresh.
Lister: Why didn't you tell me, Hol?
Holly: What, and spoil your tea?

Terriblyconcerned · 09/04/2012 11:01

Thank you to everyone for your advice. I'm sorry if I seemed a little over-sensitive last night, accusing people of making fun. I can see now that people were being genuine and I appreciate that.

Now, to try and answer some of the questions:

I am not entirely sure what breeds the dogs are. Two of them are brown with long ears, one has spots and the other one is quite small with short legs. I'm afraid I am no expert.

Yes, we did get a new shed. I sent my dsis a link to this thread and she asked me to explain that the incident with the shed was an accident. I think we will have to agree to disagree on that one!

On the slighest off chance that this isn't a total wind up and your dsis really is as barking mad (dreadful but irresistible pun) as she sounds, just show her this thread and point out that the general consensus to her idea was that everyone thought it was a joke.

Mandy2003 · 09/04/2012 11:06

Did the bikers steal her picnic?

Lueji · 09/04/2012 11:34

I hope the dogs are bitches. Confused

:o

SydSaid · 09/04/2012 11:38

Hahahahaha! Love it lueji!

RuleBritannia · 09/04/2012 12:22

No one has yet mentioned Romulus andRemus. They were twin baby boys in Ancient Rome who were put in a basket and abandoned by their parents. A she wolf took them over, feeding them herself for some time until a shepherd found them. So dog milk seems to be suitable.

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/04/2012 12:24

They were mentioned way upthread Rule.

RuleBritannia · 09/04/2012 12:26

Oh, sorry. Then I didn't read through the thread properly. Blush

GeraldineHoHoHobergine · 09/04/2012 13:07

Everyone laughed at my rats milk thread too. Charlatans. I think your sister is mad op, I should introduce her to my friend.

GrimmaTheNome · 09/04/2012 13:27

Gives 'em wind though, dog milk does.
that's where the idea of patting dogs came from.

Dog milk evidently suits , more here.

I'm sure I read a news story a few years ago about someone snowed in with a newborn who was kept alive by a lactating bitch. Well, I suppose in those circumstances needs must!

LeBOF · 09/04/2012 13:30

Are there not the same issues with cow's milk?
