Rented a film to watch tonight. Put it on and the movie wouldn't play. When I pressed 'play movie' I got some director's commentary Hmm a documentary about the whole film. scrolled through, thinking perhaps the film came after. nope. restarted it, thinking maybe I'd pressed the wrong button. Nope.

Took it back and said it isn't working, do you have another copy, or is this perhaps one of 2 cds I was meant to be given. Woman said "I don't know. the machine tells me which box they're in." in a couldn't care less voice.

I said oh, well, what do I do then.

She said how much did you pay for it? I said only £1.99, but I did want to watch it. She took it off me and put it back into the system as returned (normal this films been watched and returned iyswim)

well, she said, I don't know how to do refunds. You'll have to come back another day and talk to the manager.

Hmm

So I go in, can I talk to the manager please, I'd like my £1.99

I'm going to look like a prat.

I'm pissed off that they took my money, I didn't get to watch my film, the shop assistant was useless and driving there twice would cost me more in petrol than the bloody film was in the first place!

And the worst bit is it was only some crappy horror film and I've already forgotten the damned title!

Mountain out of molehill?

Crappy but move on and never rent from there again

ChristIsTrulyRisen · 07/04/2012 21:44

Did she cough at you?

Dee03 · 07/04/2012 21:44

I hate it when things like that happen

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 07/04/2012 21:51

I can see why people think it doesn't matter because it's "only" £1.99, but all the 1.99s add up, and I think you should go and get your money back, and point out that the member of staff who dealt with you was, not to put too fine a point on it, incompetent and badly trained.
It's the principle of the thing (and I know some lots of people won't agree with me, but there have been times in my life when 1.99 was a lot of money, and it's not just that it's a small amount, it's the fact that it's yours, you paid for something you didn't get, and then the shop assistant was incapable of sorting it out. Go play hell with the manager - I would! If they take £1.99 from ten customers a week, they can have a lovely takeaway on saturday nght on the proceeds... why should they get away with it?

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 07/04/2012 21:53

Get your money back and hold out for petrol money
SO annoying.

southeastastra · 07/04/2012 21:54

what film was it?

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 21:56

cough at me?

Yes, it's the principle of it. I paid for something and didn't get it and the person couldn't have cared less.

If you're going to provide something, you should make sure your staff know how to deal with things.

but I am also tempted to just let it go because no matter how much I will try to explain, they'll think it's about the £1.99!

It's the tin of spag bol all over again! Grin

Duh.

Mountain of out molehill?

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 21:57

Quarantine.

I knew it would come back to me!

OP posts:
ChristIsTrulyRisen · 07/04/2012 21:58

Cough like the one on Little Britain with the com-put-ah.

ChristIsTrulyRisen · 07/04/2012 21:58

Obvis.

iamaLeafontheWind · 07/04/2012 21:58

Are you absolutely sure that is wasn't Troll Hunter or similar when the documentary is actually the film? Grin

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 21:59

ah! I see. Grin she may as well have.

carols9995 · 07/04/2012 21:59

Yanbu. That's a pity, just when you were looking forward to it.

I joined Lovefilm and have never looked back. For a tenner a month you get two films at the same time and an unlimited number. The postage is free both ways and you can send them back when you're ready. No hassles.

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 22:00

Grin no, it was the directors' voice over. explaining all the scenes, telling how they did the special effects.

If it was the film, it was shit.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 07/04/2012 22:00

i quickly read that 'cough at me?' was the name of the film Grin

that would be really eww wouldn't it

isn't quarantine an old film?

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 22:00

I worry about that sort of thing, carols. I always think what if the film gets lost and they don't believe you? you'd end up having to pay to replace it.

OP posts:
McPhee · 07/04/2012 22:01

was this at crapbusters?

EdlessAllenPoe · 07/04/2012 22:02

that's annoying.. it is The Principle after all.. i've had people get irate over 24 p because of the principle (and did sth about it rather than tell them to bugger off)

pinkyp · 07/04/2012 22:03

Yanbu!! KFC forgot my 2lt bottle of pepsi last night, once I'd realised I was already home so I rang up to complain and the bloke said "are you sure you didn't get any of the Pepsi"? Fricking idiot.

EightiesEasterChick · 07/04/2012 22:04

Ask for something specific like a £10 voucher. Then at least you've covered your petrol costs too.

It is ridiculous that someone isn't trained to do refunds. I'd complain about that. Can you phone or email them instead of going in and inconveniencing yourself?

Tee2072 · 07/04/2012 22:05

They have never not believed me about a lost film. Get Lovefilm. You'll never look back.

And go get your £1.99 back as well.

JustHecate · 07/04/2012 22:06

no, it's the local spar. I say local. It's 5 miles away.

OP posts:
JustHecate · 07/04/2012 22:07

yes, I will pop in and tell them off Grin It will make me feel better.

I did get to watch horton hears a who, though. Which was fun.

carols9995 · 07/04/2012 22:08

They're good about it Just. That's not happened but to be honest, I lost one of the films they sent me once and I e-mailed them, apologised and asked how much it was so I could pay for it. They were excellent and said to forget it. It's lovely to come home to find films waiting for you and you can watch when you want. I joined three years ago after two of us went to the cinema and it cost £26!
