WIBU to serve this cake to friends?

dt2 was sick over Thursday night, dt1 yesterday afternoon, they both seem fine now. I am bored of the park, so just spent an enjoyable 30 minutes making banana cake with them. It's in the oven now and I shouldn't don't want to eat it all myself. WIBU to take it with us to friends we are visiting tomorrow? DP says no - it'll be full of germs. I reckon 30 mins at 180C should kill the bugs.

No. That's gross.

DinahMoHum · 07/04/2012 16:18

no i dont think you should

Whateveryousaymustberight · 07/04/2012 16:18

Would you be happy to be on the receiving end of something similar?

MamaChocoholic · 07/04/2012 16:19

Really? It's not like they sicked in the cake mix, just stirred it.

It's not the cake that's the problem, its the vist to someone else's house when you've just had some noro style virus. I would give your friend the option of cancelling the visit.

you · 07/04/2012 16:20

I would eat it!

bunnygirl1976 · 07/04/2012 16:20

The baking will have killed off any germs

Unless they plan on licking it before handing it over I can't see the problem

Will warn about the sickness, although it will be a full 48 hours since last episode before we go. Would also, of course, say I had baked it with them. But I don't want to take it as an offering if they'd be grossed out. As seems likely from the first responses here...

If you didn't eat stuff that other people had had a hand in making because you're scared of germs, you severley limit yourself. Cake will be fine.

Lueji · 07/04/2012 16:23

Ffs, it's perfectly safe.

Unless you wipe your nose with your hands and then hold the cake with them.

:o

OhdearNigel · 07/04/2012 16:24

unless they have puked all over it after it was cooked it will be fine. No virus will have survived being cooked at 180 for half an hour + which is why EHO are very relaxed at inspecting people that only bake cakes for money - they are a very low risk item

CruciFlisspaps · 07/04/2012 16:25

Did someone mention cake?

Honestly, you shouldn't serve it to your friends.

You should give it to me instead Grin

blubberyboo · 07/04/2012 16:25

i would eat it..don't see the problem.
they were sick yesterday, they are better today, cake baked today presumably they washed they hands etc like you would expect.
i'm sure we've all ate in restaurants etc where the staff have been off sick the day before only you don't know about it

OhdearNigel · 07/04/2012 16:26

and if someone refused a homebaked cake I offered because my poorly child had stirred it I would think they had taken leave of their senses

birdofthenorth · 07/04/2012 16:27

Much more chance of them catching it directly from your dc than from the cake! I would bring it.

Lueji · 07/04/2012 16:27

Yeah, I'd be happy to have it.

Wait, I do have two bananas in the house and I love banana cake.

Norovirus or not...

Kladdkaka · 07/04/2012 16:27

The oven may be at 180C but the cake won't have been. A chicken at that temp would take an hour and half at least to reach 90C. Norovirus is killed off at 60C. I reckon it would have needed at least an hour at that temp to be safe.

Saying that, I'd eat it. It's cake. Cake trumps everything.:o

Now i want banana cake!

I think it is fine to take the cake for your friends. If it were me, I would be very touched to get the offering and would gobble it down (while blocking out images of two children perhaps dipping a grubby finger in the mix) Grin

I'd eat it. 48 hours after last sickness episode, hands washed and no one licked it. Nothing lovelier than DC's bring cake to people, such a personal gift. :)

MrsKittyFane · 07/04/2012 18:46

Eat your lovely cake, buy an inferior shop bought one for your friends!

grobagsforever · 07/04/2012 19:05

slatternlymother · 07/04/2012 19:20

I'd be happy to receive it!

pictish · 07/04/2012 19:21

I am Shock at all the people saying no!!!
